Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong starred in his team's fight back against the Atlanta Braves as they recorded a 7-1 victory to avoid being swept on Wednesday. After failing to score in the first two games of the series, the Chicago offense came alive and the 22-year-old put in an impressive performance.

Aside from getting two hits and RBIs, Crow-Armstrong's highlight of the night was a triple in the eighth, where he covered the first three bases in 11.01 seconds, the fastest in the MLB this year.

Pete Crow-Armstrong was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 2020 MLB draft but injury troubles kept him out of action for the majority of his time there. In 2021, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs and went on to make his major league debut for them in September last year. After starting this season in the minors, he was recalled after Cody Bellinger's injury in April.

After being shut out in two consecutive games by the Braves, the Cubs offense started the scoring early on Wednesday with a homer and two RBIs in the first to take a 3-0 lead. Crow-Armstrong had two hits in four at-bats, showing his electric pace once again with the fastest triple of the MLB season so far. The youngster has been impressive with a .255 average with nine RBIs and one home run so far.

Javier Assad backs up Pete Crow-Armstrong with strong shutout performance vs Braves

Starting pitcher Javier Assad made his ninth start for the Chicago Cubs against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and threw six shutout innings to help his team secure the win. The Mexican pitcher allowed only four hits and recorded seven strikeouts to take his record to 4-0 and ERA to 1.49 for the season so far.

Assad's strong outing on the mound and Pete Crow-Armstrong's convincing performance ensured that the Cubs avoided their sweep of the MLB season. Moreover, the young outfielder made a strong case for himself as he continued his efforts to break into the team's lineup.
