"Long time coming for him" - P.K. Subban throws shade at Brad Marchand following Sam Bennett hit

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs
PK Subban offers candid perspective on Brad Marchand incident

Brad Marchand found himself at the center of attention during a critical moment in the playoff clash between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers in Game 3.

However, it wasn't just the hit itself that stirred the pot; replays revealed a suspected hit to Marchand's head area. While the NHL Department of Player Safety ultimately decided against disciplinary action, the fallout from the incident lingered, particularly among the Bruins faithful.

On ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," PK Subban didn't mince words when discussing the altercation. He acknowledged Marchand's typically aggressive style of play but offered a perspective that didn't align with the sentiments of Bruins supporters.

According to Subban, Marchand's role as the recipient, rather than the instigator, of such an incident was a departure from the norm.

"Brad Marchand, I’ve seen him get over on hundreds, maybe thousands of guys. This was one moment where he was the hydrant, not the dog. Probably a long time coming for him, but it’s unfortunate he got knocked out of the series. That’s just the part of the game, though. That’s playoff hockey. These things are going to happen."

Brad Marchand addresses playoff hockey intensity after Sam Bennett incident

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand commented on Sam Bennett's hit to his head in Game 3, acknowledging it as a common aspect of playoff hockey.

Marchand, speaking after missing two games due to the injury, stated that injuring opponents is part of gaining an advantage in the playoffs. Despite suggesting Bennett 'got away with one', Marchand acknowledged such incidents are inherent to the intensity of playoff hockey.

"People don't want to say it, but part of playoffs is trying to hurt every player on the other team. The more guys you take out, the more advantage your team has," Marchand said (via abcnews.com)

Marchand participated in practice, indicating a potential return. His absence is notable, given his significant contributions, tallying 10 points in the 10 playoff games he has played.

The injury occurred in a collision with Bennett, who denied intentionally throwing a punch. Marchand acknowledged Bennett's physical style and the lack of penalties or disciplinary action against him. While acknowledging the incident, Marchand emphasized the unpredictable nature of playoff hockey and refrained from extensive complaints.

"I think he got away with a shot. But I'm not going to complain. S--- happens. That's part of playoff hockey, I've been on the other side of a lot of plays," Marchand added.

The Bruins, trailing 3-2 in the series against the Florida Panthers, await and hope for Marchand's potential return for Game 6 in Boston.
