Brett Knight, a former executive of American Express from Midvale, Utah, is currently serving a 22-year sentence in prison for the murder of Ross Reisner. He was indicted for his crimes by a grand jury in Suffolk County, New York, and convicted in 2015. Knight committed the murder in 2013 by shooting Ross Resiner 11 times with his .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, resulting in Reisner's death.

Brett Knight is currently serving a 22-year sentence in prison after being found guilty of the murder of Ross Resiner in 2013. Knight, then 45 years old, was apprehended by authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee, two weeks after Resiner's murder.

Following a nationwide search, law enforcement located Knight, who was considered "armed, volatile, and extremely dangerous," according to ABC News. He was found in a house in Seymour County, Tennessee, by U.S. Marshals and Sevier County Special Operations Response Team. As per a statement by the Marshals, they recovered two handguns from Knight at the time of his arrest.

Upon his arrest, Knight pleaded guilty to the murder of Ross Reisner. The police did not disclose the location where Knight was arraigned. He was arrested in 2013 and tried in 2015, where he was found guilty.

As per ABC News, Knight worked in a high position at American Express till 2009. However, he was dismissed from his position that year, which prompted Knight to file a lawsuit against them. Knight alleged that he experienced alienation at the workplace after his management learned of his sexual orientation and HIV diagnosis.

Knight had previously lived in Ross Reisner and Kevin Murray's house in East Setauket. He used to be friends with Ross for over 20 years, as stated by Ross's brother, Ian Resiner, to ABC News. He lived in the house until he was let go by American Express. Knight believed that Ross Reisner and Kevin Murray were involved in his termination from the company.

Thomas Spota, the District Attorney of Suffolk Court at the time, stated that Knight had "convinced himself that they were responsible for everything that had gone wrong.” According to the New York Post, Knight had a major falling out with Ross Resiner and Kevin Murray in 2010, which prompted them to call the police on Knight.

Knight eventually shot Ross Reisner through his window in 2013. Reisner was shot 11 times by a .40 Smith and Wesson handgun, resulting in his death. Reisner's longtime partner Kevin Murray was also present in the scene and was grazed by a bullet. Reisner was declared dead at Stony Brook University Hospital after being struck in the chest by the bullets.
