AEW has one of the best tag team divisions in the industry. Stacked from top to bottom, they have managed to build new tag teams and make them some of the best in the business, while they have also taken established tag teams and done a fantastic job with them as well.

Over 2019 and 2020, AEW had several amazing tag team matches which are unforgettable. The Parking Lot Brawl between The Best Friends and Proud & Powerful was amazing, as was the match between FTR and The Young Bucks.

In 2021, although only six months have passed, there have already been several amazing tag team matches of note. Be it between established tag teams, or new teams formed recently, AEW has readily showcased amazing tag team matches over 2021.

In this article, we will take a look at five of the best tag team matches to take place in 2021 so far. It should be noted that matches where normal tags are not taking place, such as street fights and brawls, which end in pinfalls, will be counted on this list if they are between tag teams.

#5 AEW Dynamite (March 31): Arcade Anarchy Tag Team Match – Kip Sabian and Miro vs The Best Friends

When Kip Sabian and Miro faced Orange Cassidy and Chuckie T of The Best Friends on AEW Dynamite, no one was ready for what was to come. The match was originally expected to be just another brawl. However, with the caliber of the wrestlers involved, fans should have known that they were going to get something better.

The Arcade Anarchy Match was spectacular, as the wrestlers made use of their surroundings to the best possible extent. Be it the return of Kris Statlander or Trent returning from injury, everything that happened in that match solidified the faith the higher ups in AEW have in The Best Friends.

Using the Arcade Machines as weapons and ramps, the match was perfect for The Best Friends. When Penelope Ford became too involved, Kris Statlander’s sudden emergence from a machine and assault on Ford took her out of it.

Trent returned in his mother’s car and while Miro took out all three men, he was still put through a table in the ringside area and Chuck Taylor got the win for The Best Friends by putting Kip Sabian through the stage to get the pinfall.

#4 AEW Double or Nothing: The Young Bucks (c) vs Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

The Young Bucks defended their AEW tag titles against Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston at Double or Nothing 2021. Everything was on the line as the champions were in for the fight of their lives. Every wrestler in the match gave everything they had so as to impress.

Moxley and Kingston were seemingly indefatigable, as they kept going through everything that Nick and Matt Jackson could throw at them. Every time it appeared that they had enough, they came away with their own offense. While Kingston and Moxley worked on keeping the Bucks separate when the time came, it was their combined offense that put Moxley away.

They hit Moxley with four consecutive BTE Triggers which left him unable to kick out. The Young Bucks won and continued their title reign.

#3 AEW Revolution: Darby Allin and Sting vs Team Taz

Team Taz faced Darby Allin and Sting in a Tag Team Street Fight at AEW Revolution. It was not a tag team match in the common sense of the term. The match was also filmed cinematically and the wrestlers made the best of it.

In the first-ever match for Sting in AEW, the focus was on the WCW legend as he held nothing back. Darby Allin took some crazy bumps in the match as well, taking German Suplexes on the concrete floor.

They wrestled all over the area, with Allin taking Brian Cage through a wooden stage with a dive from two floors up. Starks and Sting battled in the end, and Sting hit the Sunset Flip and then the Scorpion Death Drop, getting the win for his team.

#2 AEW Dynamite (May 12): SCU vs The Young Bucks

The Young Bucks are currently on the run of their lives in AEW. Not only are they doing some excellent work as heels, but they have also been far more noticeable than during the first year of their time in AEW.

As heels, one of the most enraging things they could do was break up a beloved face tag team. In AEW, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky were the first-ever tag team champions. Even prior to coming to the promotion, Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels were tag team partners. They have worked together for a large part of their careers. As a result, SCU was a force to be reckoned with,

However, on this week’s episode of Dynamite, when The Young Bucks faced SCU, if the champions won, then Daniels and Kazarian would have to break up as a tag team. On the other hand, the tag titles were on the line.

With so much to lose for both teams, neither was willing to hold back. They had one of the best matches of the year. In the end, with a lot of interference from The Good Brothers, The Young Bucks were able to get the win. They focused on Christopher Daniels, blinding him with a spray, before Matt Jackson hit him with a BTE Trigger.

They won the match and ended SCU’s time together in AEW.

#1 AEW Dynamite (February 10): Jon Moxley and Lance Archer vs Kenny Omega and KENTA

Yet another extreme tag team match on AEW Dynamite, the unlikely team of Jon Moxley and Lance Archer face Kenny Omega and KENTA. All four opponents got time with each other, but KENTA and Moxley’s chemistry really showed through.

The two spent a large amount of time battering each other in the ring, while Omega and Archer dealt with each other in the crowd. Just when Archer got the better of Omega later in the match, The Good Brothers interfered and took out Jake Roberts and Lance Archer.

Jon Moxley made his way back but the numbers proved too much as he was able to take out Gallows and Anderson, but KENTA connected the GTS on him.

In the end, The Good Brothers assisted Omega in hitting Archer with a One-Winged Angel to win what could be the best tag team match so far in AEW Dynamite.
