Why did Tony Khan take a shot at John Cena and The Undertaker?

It's safe to say that Tony Khan has been very active on social media following the "Title Tuesday" edition of AEW Dynamite, but why did he feel the need to take a shot at John Cena and The Undertaker who appeared on NXT?

WWE loaded up the October 10th edition of NXT with a lot of main roster names to combat AEW Dynamite, resulting in a comfortable victory for NXT with 921,000 viewers compared to Dynamite's 609,000.

But Tony managed to find some humor in the fact that NXT didn't surpass the fabled one million viewer mark, prompting him to say that it's the first time in wrestling history that John Cena and The Undertaker have featured on a show that wasn't viewed by a seven-figure audience.

So why did he do it? Why did he take a shot at two of WWE's most beloved legends? According to Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea was to generate traffic on his Twitter (X) page so that people would stick around for when he eventually announced a match between Jay White and Penta El Zero Miedo for next week's edition of Dynamite.

"Khan noted that the 'no million' tweet was a response to the endless people who tweet at him every Thursday after the show does usually the top one or two numbers of the previous night, but that’s considered bad because they don’t hit one million viewers. There was also a strategic message in posting in the sense the one million post came at the same time he released the Jay White vs. Penta match for next week, with the idea that the post would lead to more engagement for the announcement of that match."

Are WWE going to war with Tony Khan over his tweets?

It's funny how a few characters on Twitter can cause so much uproar, but that's exactly what's happened with Tony Khan's comments about NXT not breaking one million viewers.

In the same issue of the Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer revealed that some people in WWE saw Tony Khan's comments as a "declaration of war" and will most likely not take them lying down.

With the recent news that Endeavor are more than willing to move RAW from its trademark Monday night spot if push came to shove, we might be seeing another wrestling war in the near future.
