In the 1-1 draw against Norwich City last evening, Leicester City saw their incredible winning streak in the league finally hit the buffers after eight games. The stalemate also saw another industrious streak come to an end, as Jamie Vardy failed to find the net after an identical run of games.

The Foxes hitman rolled back the years to conjure the rich vein of form reminiscent to his exploits during the title-winning season of 2015/16, when he netted in 11 consecutive games. Vardy came close to equalling or perhaps surpassing his milestone this season as he was on an eight-game scoring run - devouring every defence on his way until the Canaries shut him out .

A fantastic run nonetheless, but he was still way short of the all-time longest scoring records in football. On that note, here are the top five scoring streaks of all time.

#5 Serge Masnaghetti - 13 games, Ligue 1

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's time at PSG was replete with records and milestones but he fell some way short of upsetting this one, when his goal-scoring streak ended after nine games Valenciennes legend Serge Masnaghetti still holds the distinction for having scored in the most consecutive games in the French league with 13, a record that seems more impressive when you consider his side only finished ninth in the table regardless.

The former France international set the record way back in 1962/63 wherein he also topped the charts with 32 goals overall. Sonny Anderson of Lyon and Vahid Halilhodzic of Nantes too came close, but they too fizzled out after nine games.

#4 Tor Henning Hamre - 15 games, Estonian Meistriliiga

Not a household name, but Hamre is certainly a highly revered figure in Estonia, where he's remembered for that epic season with Flora Tallinn in 2003. The former Norwegian forward accrued 39 goals in the Estonian top-flight, a record that stands even to this day, and also scored in 15 consecutive games that season.

During that scorching run of form, he netted 21 times in all and even went on to lift the league's top-scorer award for the 2002/03 season. Not only that, but his fearsome scoring prowess came to the fore once again long after the streak ended, when Hamre scored a mammoth seven times in a 17-0 shellacking of local rivals Kuressaare!

So even though he spent most of his playing career in Scandinavia, his greatest moments arguably came in that ridiculous campaign for the Tallinn outfit.

#3 Teodor Peterek - 16 games, Polish Ekstraklasa

A rather inconspicuous figure on the list, what people also don't know is that Teodor Peterek initially held the world record for the longest scoring streak in football! The late former Polish legend scored in 16 consecutive games for the local side Ruch Chorzow in 1937/38 season - a record only matched by Gerd Muller in the 20th century and eventually broken in 2013 by Lionel Messi.

The exact count of goals scored during that fiery run remains unknown, but he did end up bagging a league-high tally of 21 that season. Very little has been documented about 'Meitlorz' and his incredible scoring exploits for club and country, but you can guess from his return of 154 goals from 189 appearances for the Blues that he was a prolific goalscorer back in the day.

#2 Gerd Muller - 16 games, Bundesliga

The Bayern Munich legend is arguably the greatest poacher in history, as his knack for showing up at the right place at the right time culminated into a glut of goals over the course of an illustrious career.

Muller's best scoring streak though, lasted 16 games in the 1969/70 season of Bundesliga. The Bavarian hitman's strike in the 4-0 defeat of Eintracht Braunschweig in September sparked an incredible run that also saw him bag all four efforts against Werder Bremen along the way.

Muller took apart every defense that befell his path before 1860 Munich successively shut him out to end the searing spell in March after 26 goals. Der Bomber eventually finished the campaign with 38 goals - an astonishing 18 more than anybody else, to claim the domestic Golden Boot in style.

#1 Lionel Messi - 21 games, La Liga

Since records are our topic of discussion here, how can it be complete without the mention of Lionel Messi? And what's more - he tops this too, as is often the case. Having only come off the back of a rampaging 73-goal campaign in 2011/12, the Barcelona ace launched into another mercurial scoring run in the following season that saw him score a staggering 21 times on the trot.

Starting with a brace against Mallorca in November, Messi carried on untrammelled in front of goal until he finally ran out of luck on the last matchday. He bagged a brace each against Real Zaragoza, Levante, Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid during the nerve-wracking run, and followed it up with a four-goal salvo against Osasuna.

Messi did go on to miss a few games after this through minor niggles but managed to get himself on the scoresheet upon his return. The Argentine struck 33 times during this hot streak - 46 overall - smashing Ronaldo Nazario's previous haul of scoring in 10 consecutive games well out of the park.
