#5 Manchester United place £70m bid for Harry Maguire

We start today's segment with news of Solskjaer's hunt for a new center back. Manchester United is coming off a woeful year where they let in the most goals in a season since the inception of the Premier League.

As such, defensive reinforcements were the priority this summer. Unfortunately for United and Solskjaer, it has not been easy to get their hands on their defensive targets.

Solskjaer's first choice centerback, Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly, has been deemed too costly, however, the Red Devils have failed to coax any other of their targets to Old Trafford so far.

The Red Devils have been locked in a battle with Manchester City for the signature of Leicester City man Harry Maguire, with both clubs willing to pay £65m for the services of the Englishman. Unfortunately, the Foxes were not interested, as they had deemed the amount too less.

Now, Sky Sports reports that United have placed a bid of £70m for Maguire, however, it has been turned down by Leicester City.

The club is clear that to secure the Englishman's signature, United have to pay a world record fee for a defender. United is supposedly in the pole position to sign the defender, as Manchester City are unwilling to match United's bid as of now.

The Telegraph also reports that Leicester City have informed United that they will have to pay £90m to get Harry Maguire.

It would mean that United will have to surpass the £75m that Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk, however, there remains the question whether the Englishman should cost more than the phenomenal Dutchman.

The 26-year-old is himself keen on joining a top six side, but will not force a move out of the club. Now it remains to be seen if Solskjaer is willing to pursue Maguire and spend such an astronomical amount of money on the Englishman.

#4 Manchester United agree personal terms with Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United have reportedly agreed terms with Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The player has been in Solskjaer's radar since the end of the season, but negotiations had stalled as United put all their efforts into the Wan-Bissaka negotiations.

Now with that deal done and dusted, the Red Devils have returned to their old hunting grounds and are leaving no stones unturned to secure the services of the Portuguese.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the player has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and now only a deal between the two clubs remains to be completed.

United, though, are yet to agree a fee with Sporting Lisbon and their evaluation of the player is nowhere near the £50m that the Portuguese club desire.

However, Fernandes is a player who Solskjaer has identified as a key component in his team for next season and as such, it should only be a matter of time before a deal between the two clubs is agreed.

#3 Manchester United hopeful of De Gea contract extension

Manchester United are still hopeful they can convince De Gea to stay

Even though United have been very busy trying to convince the right players to make the move to Old Trafford, there has been a few internal complications that has caused Solskjaer quite a few headaches.

For starters, the contract renewal situation at United has not been ideal, with quite a few players stalling.

We revealed yesterday that Marcus Rashford had finally put pen to paper on a new four year deal.

As such, there only remained one player, who was yet to sign a new deal and whom Solskjaer would desperately want in his team in the new season - David De Gea. But it now looks like good news could be just around the corner.

The Guardian reports that United are still hopeful of getting De Gea to sign a new contract, even though the player and the club have still not reached an agreement yet.

The Red Devils are working very hard to convince the player to stay and are even willing to pay him a salary similar to Paul Pogba.

This means that the Spaniard could earn as much as £290,000 per week! But will it be enough to convince De Gea? Only time will tell.

#2 United to make a formal approach for Sean Longstaff this week

United will make a formal approach for Longstaff this week

United's currently transfer policy has been a calculated mixture of the present and the future, which is why the Red Devils are targeting young players who can be at Old Trafford for at least a decade.

This is another reason why Sean Longstaff has been shortlisted and it looks like United's interest in the Newcastle youngster is about to take a serious turn.

The Telegraph reports that United will formally approach Newcastle United this week for the services of the young midfielder. This will be the first bid for Longstaff and the Red Devils are currently the only club among the fabled top 6 who are still interested in the player.

It is understood that Pogba's future bears no impact on United's interest in the youngster. The £25m rated player has been firmly in Solskjaer's plans, but an absence of any competition for his signature means that United can beef up negotiations to acquire him at a price lower than Newcastle would like.

#1 United target talented Spanish youngster

United are interested in Dani Olmo

Spain's recent triumph at the Under-21 European Championships brought a lot of player under the limelight and many top clubs in Europe have been monitoring quite a few of those players. It now seems that United are one of them as well.

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Dani Olmo, the Spanish winger, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb. When his agent Andy Bara was contacted and asked about a potential transfer, Bara laughed and had this response

At this point I can’t comment on it!
Serious talks start from today, ultimately decided by Dinamo and Olmo, of course.
I send all interested clubs to Dinamo and when the clubs agree a fee, I will come to agree on the conditions for Dani.
Dani can play for any club as he has already showed this at the Euro U21s. When we are talking about Manchester United, they have no such player as Olmo.
