Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has questioned the inconsistency of the referees following the Red Devils' 1-1 draw against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday, April 27.

United took the lead late in the game, through a 79th-minute strike from Antony. However, the Clarets managed to bounce back after Andre Onana's foul. Zeki Amdouni scored from the penalty spot in the 87th minute to make it all square.

Ten Hag, however, believes his side were denied a spot-kick during the game. In the 76th minute, Alejandro Garnacho went down inside the Burnley area under a challenge. Ten Hag pointed out that similar calls have been awarded as spot kicks before, saying: (via United Zone on X):

"We are not lucky with the refereeing in recent weeks. We've conceded so many penalties, this one is justified but other ones. If you make Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the semi-final [FA Cup] a penalty, then what is this [[Garnacho's penalty claim]? Where's the consistency."

Apart from Garnacho's claim, Manchester United also had a strong penalty appeal with the score 1-1. The ball clearly struck the Burnley defender's hand inside the area. However, the officials adjudged that his hand was in a natural position and a goal wasn't given.

Manchester United suffer yet another poor result

Manchester United have now won only one of their last five league matches, drawing three and losing another. After a hard-fought win against bottom-placed Sheffield, they were held at home by 19th-placed Burnley.

The Red Devils now have 54 points on the board from 34 matches. They are six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have two games in hand. Burnley, meanwhile, earned a valuable point as they look to survive relegation. Vincent Kompany's side have 24 points from 35 matches this season.

United will next face Crystal Palace away on May 6. They will then host Arsenal and Newcastle United before facing Brighton & Hove Albion away.
