Chelsea consider making move for 24-year-old PL forward in January: Reports

Pochettino wants to add firepower to Chelsea
Pochettino wants to add firepower to Chelsea's frontline this January.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add attacking firepower to his Chelsea side and has set his sights on Newcastle United's Alexander Isak.

This is as per Football Transfers (via The Boot Room), the Blues are willing to make their move as early as January, with manager Pochettino keen on bringing his team's season back on track.

These developments come after Christopher Nkunku's rather unlucky start to life with Chelsea. He joined from RB Leipzig last summer and has only made four appearances for the Blues, totaling up to 152 minutes of game time.

Other options include Armando Broja, who has shown inconsistency in the spells he has been given the chance to start, and Raheem Sterling, who is better off playing in a wide role.

This leaves the door open for Chelsea to pursue Alexander Isak, who only joined Newcastle in August 2022. However, the Swede will not come cheap as his existing deal runs until 2028, and he is just 24 years old with several years before his prime.

Since joining the Magpies, Isak has made 49 appearances and netted 23 goals, along with three assists. He has already bagged 13 goals in 22 appearances so far this season, making it unlikelier that Eddie Howe would let him leave.

Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana joins Burnley on loan

Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana has joined Premier League rivals Burnley on loan until the end of the season, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The Clarets will not have a buy option in the deal and will be covering the entirety of Fofana's salary. The player's medical will take place on Saturday, January 13.

Datro Fofana signed for the Blues from Norwegian side Molde FK in January 2023 but was unable to establish himself in the first team. Aged just 20 when he first arrived, it was clear that he would require to gain some experience before being able to lead the line for Chelsea.

The Ivorian bagged 24 goals and 10 assists in 65 appearances for Molde, but has made just four appearances for the west Londoners since joining.

Part of him being sent away on loan is his inexperience, combined with the fact that Mauricio Pochettino prefers playing just one striker up front. With Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja ahead of him in the pecking order, a stint with Burnley will likely help him find his feet before he suits up for a bigger club.
