Daniel Cormier responded after hearing that Jon Jones would approve of him calling his upcoming fight with Ciryl Gane, which is scheduled to headline UFC 285 on March 4.

Cormier uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he discussed his reaction to hearing Jones not being upset with him on commentary as he attempts to capture the vacant heavyweight championship. He mentioned that doesn't believe he needs permission because he conducts himself professionally.

He said:

"Just for the record, I don't really need permission to call someone's fight. I'm not gonna call Zach Candido or Craig Borsari and say, 'Hey, Jon Jones said it's okay for me to call the fight, so you guys could put me on the call.'"

'DC' then brought up that despite not feeling that he needed permission, it was nice to know that his former foe wouldn't have a problem with him or feel as though he would be a biased commentator, saying:

"It's kinda nice to hear the fighter acknowledge that even with our history, he believes that I could do him justice and do the job fairly. Because I've done it before, and I've done it at a time when him and I were at the height of our engagements, of our rivalry, of our fighting."

Cormier was on commentary when 'Bones' fought Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197. He proved that he could be on the commentary panel and call his fights with the same respect that he has called everybody else's fights in the UFC.

Jon Jones wouldn't be upset about Daniel Cormier working the UFC 285 broadcast

It's no secret that Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier aren't the best of friends. They were involved in one of the biggest rivalries in UFC history that saw them compete twice in the octagon and once more during a press conference.

Despite their history as competitors, Jones has stated that he wouldn't be upset if he sees 'DC' working on the UFC 285 broadcast on March 4. In fact, he even complimented his former bitter rival by saying he is great at what he does.

He wrote:

"DC you are more than welcome to commentate at my fight, I think you are really good at what you do. I trust that you would be non-biased. All the best brother"

It will be interesting to see whether 'DC' conducts the post-fight interview with Jones should he defeat Ciryl Game to win the vacant heavyweight championship.
