The thread started with Twitter user @GQBader questioning the former fighter's credibility after Cormier pegged UFC 284 as the "greatest champ vs. champ" showdown in the promotion's history.
The user suggested that the American should not commentate during his former foe Jon Jones' comeback fight:
"Losing credibility right there. Please don't commentate during @JonnyBones fight."

In a subsequent tweet, Cormier revealed why he chose to stay away from calling the fights at UFC 284. 'DC' suggested that he decided to skip the event, respecting fan sentiment:
"Ok, any other fights you want me off? I took last night off at your suggestion. Was the experience much more enjoyable?"
