'Hitman' Liam Harrison was getting ready for an exhibition showdown against all-time boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. when his knee gave out. The pair were booked to fight at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Liam Harrison is one of the most important figures in UK Muay Thai history. He has fought the very best of Muay Thai internationally and captured world titles over his hundreds of bouts.

Harrison spoke to Volt Lozada of The MMA Superfan about his canceled fight with Mayweather. 'The Hitman' explained his injury which forced him to pull out of the match:

"I did two or three days training, hard training. The type of training that I need to do to be able to get myself in shape to have a fight and my knee just ballooned up."

Instead of Liam Harrison, Floyd Mayweather ended up facing UK reality TV star Aaron Chalmers. Mayweather also called out another Muay Thai legend and former opponent of Harrison, Saenchai. The all-time Muay Thai great Saenchai was flattered but declined the match:

"But I’m glad that they know me. The problem is boxing is not my forte. Would you like to fight me under Muay Thai rules instead? Doesn’t matter win or lose. If it’s Muay Thai, I’m always ready."

Liam Harrison on Floyd Mayweather exhibition matches

Floyd Mayweather retired with a perfect 50-0 record from professional boxing in 2017 and has been keeping busy with various exhibition matches. While this matchup was billed as an exhibition bout, 'Hitman' Liam Harrison was not fooled by what this fight would have been.

In the same interview with The MMA Superfan, the English striker stated:

“Let’s say ‘exhibition bout’ is not an exhibition because I see what he does during these exhibitions. He knocks ‘em flat out. He’s beating up everyone in these exhibitions.”

Liam Harrison suffered a knee injury in his last match, which was a battle for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title against Nong-O Hama. Soon, the all-time Muay Thai great Nong-O will face another dangerous UK Muay Thai striker, 'The General' Jonathan Haggerty.

Nong-O and Haggerty have been booked for a world title clash at ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video. The April 21 fight event will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.
