Michael Chandler recently appeared on UFC Connected, where he spoke about Conor McGregor's near-perfect performance against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.

Chandler said that McGregor's goal of becoming a two-division champion was a lofty notion and one that many thought wasn't possible:

"So, we talk about lightweights too, you have to talk about the entrance of Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor stormed on to the scene as a featherweight, won the title and always talked about becoming a two-division champion. It was a lofty goal that not a lot of us thought was going to be able to happen."

The former Bellator champion then gave his opinion on the night 'Notorious' produced the finest performance of his career:

"He came in, beat Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden. He almost looked untouchable. That in my mind was Conor McGregor's best performance that we've ever seen. The most complete, most dominant. The sport itself was elevated by Conor McGregor."

The Irishman scored three knockdowns during the contest and eventually secured a second-round finish to win the UFC lightweight title.

Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor: Will they face off?

McGregor is currently ranked No.9 in the lightweight division, while Chandler is currently at No.5. The Irishman is recovering from the freak leg break against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. On the other hand, Chandler is set to return at UFC 274. The former multi-time Bellator champion will fight former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson.

Chandler and McGregor do seem to be on a collision course. The American has called out McGregor several times, and the Irishman even responded positively about a possible fight between them.

McGregor is the biggest draw the UFC has ever seen. Chandler, on his part, always produces highlight-reel fights and entertains the fans. A bout between the pair in the future is something fans will tune in to watch. 'The Notorious' is scheduled to return to action in 2022, and it will be interesting to see just who his opponent will be.
