Khabib Nurmagomedov recently attended the Basketball Wrestling Championships held in Dagestan. 'The Eagle' witnessed the team he supports secure the title, as he was invited to watch the final by the organizers of the event.

The sport, called "Dagestani Basketball," is a combination of basketball and wrestling, with a hoop being placed above a particular section of the cage. Opponents are allowed to take one another down during the match, but strikes don't appear to be permitted.

Nurmagomedov cheered his side on passionately from the bleachers, and was visibly ecstatic when the final bell rang. The action was posted on YouTube by MMA Squad, who said the following about the event:

"Khabib Nurmagomedov was in Dagestan where he was invited as the guest at the Dagestani wrestling tournament final. Khabib's team was participating and Khabib's team won. This tournament was not just normal basketball, it was called Dagestani Basketball where you can take your opponent's own."

Khabib Nurmagomedov's love for the sport that's indigenous to his region is well documented. Will Harris, founder of MMA channel Anatomy of a Fighter, traveled to Dagestan several years ago to create a vlog series about the life of 'The Eagle.'

During his time there, Harris was able to capture a video of a game of Dagestani Basketball.

Joe Rogan claims Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. BJ Penn would have been the 'best match of all time'

BJ Penn's legendary career is sometimes forgotten due to the string of losses he suffered towards the end. However, UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently said that a match between 'The Prodigy' and Khabib Nurmagomedov would've been the greatest of all time.

Rogan alluded to the relentless cardio that Penn possessed as being a key factor in why the hypothetical fight fascinated him so much. 'The Eagle' himself has shown to be able to fight five rounds at an incredible pace, such as his fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

On a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, he said the following:

"He had a gas tank that was off the charts and when you have a guy that's already as talented as BJ with zero fear of getting tired. He was the GOAT. If there was a fight that I ever wanted to see, it would be Khabib Nurmagomedov in his prime vs BJ Penn in those years... BJ Penn was a motherf***er man!"
