There is no doubt that former lightweight title challenger, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, is one of the most loved fighters on the UFC’s roster today. However, he doesn’t quite have the drawing power that Irish featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, does.
‘Cowboy’ spoke to UFC Tonight, this past Wednesday, to discuss his upcoming fight with Kelvin Gastelum at welterweight, on the historic UFC 205 card in New York City. The card will be headlined by McGregor and Eddie Alvarez, where McGregor will attempt to become the promotion’s first dual weight champion of all time.
Cerrone was asked if he was jealous of the Irishman’s ability to put butts in the seats, something that benefits all fighters, who compete on the same card as the man, who knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds. Here’s what he said, courtesy of MMA Mania:
“Probably, yeah. I don’t know about jealous, he puts asses in the seats, I give that to him. He goes out and wins, so I’m not going to bet against him.”
Don’t let the words of respect fool you, Cerrone and McGregor have been embroiled in a bit of bad blood of their own, in the past, most notably where the two fighters exchanged words, during the UFC’s Go Big press conference last year.
This was back when McGregor was promoting his highly anticipated bout with Jose Aldo, and Cerrone was promoting his lightweight title fight with the then champion, Rafael dos Anjos.
Cerrone has also gone on record, calling McGregor a ‘pu**y’ who needs to learn to ‘slow his f*cking roll’ and stop hiding like a ‘scared little kid’ behind the scenes.
However, McGregor is the least of Cerrone’s worries right now; he has a date against Gastelum on the main card of UFC 205 live on pay per view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.
