5 WWE superstars with surprising medical conditions

Seth Rollins was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion until he injured his knee a few weeks back.

Editor’s note: Hi Jeremy. The list needs to contain conditions and not injuries that happened along the course of the wrestler’s career. Try to add in Rock’s depression, Brock Lesnar’s Diverticulitis and so on (even Vince McMhaon has dyslexia). Edit Rollins and Orton out of the list and add in the changes. RegardsInjuries are part of professional wrestling, but that doesn’t mean they’re always expected. The risk for injury is an obvious part of professional wrestling.Even in a standard match on television, men are jumping onto each other from various heights and being slammed and bent in ways that are meant to hurt. When you add in the various hardcore scenarios that pop up, medical issues become even more of a possibility.Still, several WWE superstars have managed to develop conditions or came into the sport with existing conditions, that might surprise fans. Here are a few of them, in no particular order.

#1 Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion until he injured his knee a few weeks back.

So everyone in the WWE Universe is aware of what happened to Seth Rollins. Further, a knee injury is hardly a wacky ailment for a performer like Seth Rollins to suffer, so there’s no surprise there.

What makes this particular condition a surprise are the circumstances surrounding the injury. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion was wrestling a live event, also known as a house show, in a match against Kane, not his next challenger, Roman Reigns. During this match, which wasn’t going to help him prepare for a pay-per-view show, he performed a pretty risky move and got hurt.

So what comes as a bit of a shock is that the “future of the company” would be put in such a position or allow himself to get hurt in such a manner.

#2 Lex Luger

These days, Lex Luger doesn’t look much like the man wrestling fans once knew.

In his wrestling days, Lex Luger was known for his chiseled physique. In fact, his bodybuilder look carried him to championships in the sport, even when it was clear that he didn’t have the in-ring ability that some of his opponents possessed.

Once his career was over, Luger has had many struggles, including a “spinal stroke” that left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair. He has since recovered to a degree, but the accompanying weight loss would likely make his appearance a shock to some who aren’t aware of all he’s been through.

#3 Mark Henry

Mark Henry is known as the “World’s Strongest Man,” and that has shaped his booking in WWE.

Mark Henry’s condition is one wrestling fans would have little reason to know about, as the powerlifter reportedly suffers from dyslexia. While that wouldn’t affect him in the ring, it played at least a minor role in his arrival in pro wrestling.

Henry was a football player in high school, and his size and strength would certainly suggest that he could have been very good at the sport. But in addition to an injury, low test scores cut his football career short, and his path went a direction that carried him toward the WWE eventually.

#4 Big Show

Big Show’s size has a medical explanation and has been an asset to his career.

It turns out that there’s an explanation for the impressive size that has made Big Show, and Andre the Giant, such a draw in professional wrestling. Both men were diagnosed with acromegaly, which is called gigantism at times and results from the pituitary gland producing too much growth hormone.

Big Show, real name Paul Wight, was 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds by the time he was 12 years old and reportedly even had chest hair. Before he arrived in professional wrestling, Wight had surgery to correct his gland issues, but he was already a 7-footer that was destined for greatness in WCW and WWE.

#5 Randy Orton

Randy Orton is on the shelf for a bizarre injury that had nothing to do with in-ring action.

Randy Orton has suffered shoulder injuries before, so no one was surprised to hear that he had suffered another one. The Viper had also been looking for time off, reportedly, so it wasn’t too unfortunate for him to miss screen time.

How he got hurt was both unfortunate and surprising, though. According to reports, Orton suffered the shoulder ailment while taking out the trash. No one likes doing that particular chore, but it seems as though there’s evidence it could be harfmul to our health.
