WWE New Year's resolutions

Bayley is on a roll

The Authority have some wish-granting to doEven if Vince McMahon got his Christmas wish when Roman Reigns became WWE World Champion, there are still plenty of holes to be filled in the cracks of poor booking and injured superstars. The fact Reigns, who took a year to finally get over with fans proves despite the past decade of John Cena ruling the WWE roost, the former Shield member cannot be completely trusted to lead the next era of professional wrestling.Fans want a leader who talks the part, looks the part and can walk with the best of them in a squared-circle. Reigns is just scratching the surface of his talent. Had this been 2014 and Reigns had not had a hernia injury, his acceptance by fans might have been immediate. It’s a blatant form of short-term memory. Given the fact Seth Rollins proved to be a gem in the ring every night and showed he could get better with each pay-per-view did not help Reigns in his development with the fans. The Authority angle worked perfectly for Rollins at first and once he was winning on his own, fans really took to his heel persona.Reigns either has to take his game up a notch or turn heel or finally found a mouthpiece to further enhance his character as a champion built for longevity, not for speed. McMahon and his minions have to correct the other problems with finding the right combination of programming until superstars like Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan return to the ring.As the new year approaches, he also has to find a balance that keeps superstars like Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose near or at the top of the food chain to settle the masses down after they have wanted to revolt for so long. These are five resolutions McMahon needs to maintain for WWE to be a success in 2016 instead of the struggling curiosity it has been in 2015.

#1 More Bayley

Bayley is on a roll

And Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. We get the idea of why the company put the Divas Title on Charlotte and had Paige, who has been as outspoken about the women in the company as any wrestler in the business, become the voice of reason.

Charlotte’s heel turn has become a perfect transition within the division, which should lead to Paige becoming a Steve Austin-like babyface and Banks and Lynch getting more chances to become a champion. Bayley’s time in NXT is running out and should be called up to the main roster shortly, which will only strengthen the division as well.

Bayley, Banks and Lynch could have round robin matches that electrify the crowds while Charlotte and Paige continue to vie for the company crown. The future is strong with these women, adding Naomi to the mix.

#2 A Clean Bill of Health

Randy Orton has been missing in action with an injury

When four of the company’s top stars – led by Rollins and then Randy Orton, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan – are out with injuries that are long term issues, management tends to panic. Add the fact John Cena was off the path after Hell in a Cell and WWE’s roster looked a little thin.

Seriously, it was very thin.

Cena has come back to the company, but the other four are still inactive. How the company weathers the storm until there is a complete list of superstars in the lineup, there will be issues with booking and feuds that may look good on paper, but in reality are just stop-gapped measures.

Sami Zayn just returned to action and the company could call Samoa Joe to its main roster after the first of the year. Those two moves alone will help strengthen the company.

WWE cannot deal with a rash of injuries like these in 2016. Changes in character will be necessary to keep momentum, if there is any, going into January.

#3 Help from TNA

The Hardys maybe back in the WWE in 2016

The Dudley’s are already on the roster with Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno. They lead a small continent from ECW that speaks volumes about where the company wants to go in 2016. Look for more extreme-type matches to take place, maybe with the Hardcore Title making a comeback.

James Storm has already wrestled in an NXT match and could still make the jump from TNA. There have been rumors about Austin Aries, AJ Styles and Bobby Roode all coming to McMahon’s circus. A strong takeover angle could be just what the company needs to regain fans and increase television ratings.

Also, these additions will add plenty of strength to the cruiserweight division, which could also lead to the return of the cruiserweight title as well.

There are also rumors of Jeff Hardy coming back to WWE after his knee injury heels. He and his brother Matt would be a welcomed addition by the fans, who can’t wait to see the potential of a feud with Dudley’s again with tables, ladders and chairs involved.

#4 Stay Away from John Cena

John Cena is a 15-time world champion

It’s so easy to put the WWE World Title on the shoulder of John Cena. And it probably will happen at some point in 2016, if for no other reason than for the 15-time champion to tie Ric Flair for the most title runs.

WWF used to run back to Hulk Hogan and the NWA used to put the title on Ric Flair because both could draw heat and draw money. Now, with Cena showing a bit of a lean toward another career, the new generation of stars must form quickly.

WWE must allow Reigns to make his own way, possibly stumble a bit while holding the title. Rollins needs to become a better gamesman. Both have the potential to be huge hits in the future. Also, Cena’s best place in WWE right now is in the mid card with the likes of Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Ambrose and Ryback.

He not only helps them get over, but if he regains the United States Title, it again becomes the focal point of the company as long as it is around his waist.

Cena without a title is not a good thing for WWE, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be WWE’s top prize.

#5 Reigns vs. Rollins Must Happen

This one needs to happen

We did not get to see this feud take off. And if the company builds it properly (I know, I just put the hex on it), this is the program that could move WWE away from John Cena once and for all. WWE has about seven months to write this script and make it work.

While the WWE World Title was supposed to change hands altogether, there is such a great story between these two superstars.

It could also lead to an eventual double turn where Rollins becomes the babyface and Reigns becomes a more intimidating heel, who then would almost certainly get over with the fans.

At the end of 2015, we can all look back on the year and see that Reigns, Rollins and Dean Ambrose – the members of the Shield, dominated this company. The continuation of this feud is the right thing to do. Right now, there will be opponents who “fill in” while Rollins gets his knee back in shape.

Fans will plod through the year until the end of July, beginning of August when this match could really heat up. Wouldn’t it be great to see both in a ring at the end of 2016 with everything on the line?
