The 35th annual Royal Rumble event takes place on Saturday, January 29. The road to WrestleMania will officially begin and WWE's most popular season will kick into second gear.

It has been announced that the Men's and Women's Royal Rumble matches will take place once again. The Women's Rumble match first debuted in 2018 and is now firmly an annual fixture on the match card every January.

The thought of seeing an all-women's Rumble match seemed far-fetched a number of years ago. However, times have now changed and sport in general has taken massive steps in recent times towards female inclusion. WWE took their own steps with their own Women's Revolution, which eventually saw Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey main event WrestleMania 35.

Sadly, it meant a lot of years, where we could have seen the women's division peak, we missed out on a number of talent entering the Rumble match. In recent times, we have seen WWE Hall of Famers and legends return to compete in the match, however there are still some superstars who have yet to do so.

That being said, here are ten female WWE Superstars who have never appeared in a Royal Rumble match.

#10 Stacy Keibler has never competed in a Royal Rumble match

Stacy Keibler made her name in WWE during the latter stages of the Attitude Era and into the Ruthless Aggression era. Often a valet, Keibler would compete inside the ring on occasion.

She never entered the traditional Men's Rumble match, and she is yet to return for a cameo in the Women's Rumble match. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant did return in 2019 for the first time in 13 years to induct Torrie Wilson into the Hall of Fame.

#9 Gail Kim has never competed in a Royal Rumble match

Gail Kim has let her feelings be known for her displeasure with WWE over the last few years, especially with how she was treated whilst working there. However, there was a time when Gail was women's champion in the company.

During her time with WWE, she didn't compete in the Rumble match, and it is unlikely she will ever return for the Women's Rumble match. She made her name in IMPACT Wrestling outside of WWE and is currently heavily involved behind the scenes.

The disenchantment she has for her former employers is unlikely to see her return anytime in the future.

#8 Dawn Marie has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

Dawn Marie no doubt deserves more recognition and an appearance in a Women's Royal Rumble match would allow for it. As it stands, she has never figured in the match. Dawn hasn't been seen in WWE since 2005.

Her last appearance was at the critically-acclaimed ECW One Night Stand reunion event. Dawn spent three years at Paul Heyman's promotion before turning heads with her sensual storyline with Torrie Wilson's father, Al, in WWE.

Maybe some day soon she will make an appearance, if only for the company to give thanks for her contributions to the business.

#7 Sunny has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

WWE Hall of Famer Sunny was one of the first female talents that WWE really pushed the envelope with. She is widely known as the 'Original Diva' and became a huge hit with the company.

Although Sunny hasn't competed in a Rumble match, she did however compete in the Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25. Eventually, it led to her being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2011.

In recent times, Sunny, better known as Tammy Lynn Sytch, has been battling her own personal demons. A return to WWE at present, or in the future, appears off the table for now.

#6 Mae Young never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

On January 14, 2014, the world of professional wrestling lost one of its greatest entertainers: Mae Young. If anyone could have been in a Rumble match, then look no further than Mae Young.

Who else, at the tender age of 77 years old, would want to be powerbombed from the stage onto a stack of tables? Well, Mae did it. The former NWA United States Women's Champion was willing to do whatever it took to entertain the WWE Universe in her later years.

Mae made an appearance at the Rumble event in 2000 and won the Miss Royal Rumble 2000 swimsuit contest. That's the closest she's ever got to an over-the-top-rope battle royal.

#5 Former Divas Champion Maryse has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

Surely someday we will see Maryse compete in her first Royal Rumble match. After all, she is still competing, albeit sporadically, which means there is every chance it could happen.

The two-time Divas Champion is certainly underappreciated for her time at the top of the women's division in the late 2000's. To have the opportunity to see Maryse mix it up with the current crop of WWE talent would be an era vs. era-type moment, and one the WWE Universe would lap up.

We could see how her stars align over the next few years to hopefully cross her off this list.

#4 Melina has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

One of the more surprising names on the list comes in the form of Melina. The two-time Divas Champion and three-time WWE Women's Champion has yet to appear in the over-the-top-rope battle.

Melina has been one of the company's most recognized superstars from the 2000's and would be welcomed back in a heartbeat by the WWE Universe. At present, she is still performing on the independent scene and for promotions such as NWA and IMPACT Wrestling.

A kick down of the forbidden door might be required once again someday. It will certainly make sure Melina adds competing in a Rumble match to her list of achievements.

#3 Former WWE Women's Champion Sable has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

There was one women's wrestler that stood out amongst the male-orientated roster during the Attitude Era: Sable. Not only was Sable used as eye-candy for the product, but the company allowed her to showcase her ability in the ring. The run eventually saw her become WWE Women's Champion.

Sable, who is married to Brock Lesnar, hasn't appeared for the company since 2004. She initially left the company in 1999 and filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon's promotion. In the end, disputes were settled and Sable returned.

It is highly unlikely we will ever see Sable in a WWE ring again. She lives on a remote farm with her husband and appears to have no desire to return to the public spotlight.

#2 Stephanie McMahon has never competed in a Royal Rumble match

Whilst her husband Triple H is a two-time Royal Rumble winner, Stephanie McMahon has never entered a Rumble match.

After all, Stephanie is a former WWE Women's Champion, so she knows how to hang with the best of them. It would be surprising if her music hit and she entered, however again, it would provide the WWE Universe and herself a memorable moment.

The WWE Executive has taken a backseat as of late in having an on-screen role. Her last match in the ring came at WrestleMania 34 when she teamed up with her husband to face Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey.

#1 AJ Lee has never appeared in a Royal Rumble match

It has almost been seven years since we last saw AJ Lee compete in a WWE ring. Her last match came at RAW, the night after WrestleMania 31, where she teamed up with Paige and Naomi to face The Bella Twins and Natalya.

The likelihood of her returning one day remains slim due to her husband, CM Punk, having a lot of fury towards WWE. However, she recently joined the new Women of Wrestling venture as an Executive Producer.

The Geek Goddess would certainly "light it up" if she was to ever return, but for now she will remain a name that has never competed in a star-studded Rumble match.
