Triple H addressing the media concerning Wrestlemania 35. What do fans really want out of the biggest show of the year?

Wrestlemania has been going strong for over three decades. Indeed, the WWE's biggest sports entertainment presentation of the year has been happening longer than many wrestling fans have been alive.

Much like what the Superbowl is to American Football, and the World Series is to Major League Baseball, and the World Cup is to soccer, Wrestlemania is the most prestigious event in the world of pro wrestling. Over the past three decades, many of the most significant events in the WWE, and indeed all of wrestling, have transpired at a Wrestlemania event.

Every wrestling fan can point to moments like Andre the Giant being slammed by Hulk Hogan, and the Iron Man match that made Shawn Michaels a star and cemented Bret Hart's legacy as the excellence of execution. Then there's the pageantry, exemplified by performers like the flamboyant Liberace, and the special guests and celebrity appearances.

In short, Wrestlemania transcends being a simple wrestling show and becomes something more, something ephemeral yet ultimately within reach, like a cloud castle you can actually touch.

Here are ten things that fans want to see at Wrestlemania 35.

#1 Decisive ends to certain storylines

Wrestlemania is both a beginning and an ending for WWE. On one hand, it sets the tone for the rest of the year's events.

On the other hand, it can be a great place to resolve conflicts and provide fans with the payoff of a well-concluded storyline. This is an art that wrestling companies struggle with, because often in order for an angle to conclude someone has to do 'the job' and be defeated. Since losing matches can hurt a wrestler's credibility, a lot of angles just sort of peter out and are replaced by others.

But doing 'the job' at Wrestlemania is still a lot less hurtful than losing under normal circumstances. Fans hope that WWE uses the largest show of the year to put good resolution and endings to the feuds and storylines of the past year.

#2 Star-making moments

Wrestlemania is a place for legends and world champion caliber wrestlers to ply their trade. It is also a place where stars are born, or perhaps made, under the brightest spotlights of the mega event.

Take, for example, the Intercontinental title match between Macho Man Randy Savage and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat at Wrestlemania III. The build-up to the bout was incredible and involved both Miss Elizabeth and George the Animal Steele. At one point, Randy Savage used a ring bell to 'crush' the Dragon's throat.

Naturally, this added heat to their conflict at Wrestlemania. The match they had turned out to be the match of the night and overshadowed the conflict between Andre and Hogan.

Due to their star-making performance, by the end of the next year both men were world champions--Savage was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, while Ricky Steamboat pinned Flair for the NWA World Championship.

Fans would like to see another star-making turn at Wrestlemania 35, where superstars become legends.

#3 The end of the pointless Andre the Giant battle royal

Let's get one thing straight; we think WWE paying homage to Andre the Giant with a special match is a good thing. It honors Andre's memory, and his legacy as one of the most dominant battle royal participants in wrestling history.

However, Andre deserves better than this lackluster, often disappointing slugfest that features all of the wrestlers WWE doesn't have any specific plans for. Do you want proof of how meaningless this battle royal is? The previous winners have been Mojo Rawley, Matt Hardy, Cesaro, and Baron Corbin.

While none of these men are doing poorly--with the possible exception of Rawley--winning the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal didn't do anything to help their careers, either.

On a wrestling program that is already running over three hours, you need to trim the fat, and the Andre the Giant battle royal would best be moved to either the go-home edition of Raw or the Raw immediately following Wrestlemania.

#4 A steel cage or Hell in a Cell main event

In the 35 years that Wrestlemania has been in existence, how many steel cage matches have they featured as the main event of the broadcast? What's your guess? Four? Five? How about only ONE?

That's right, Wrestlemania has only had one steel cage match as the main event in its entire historic run. That match took place at Wrestlemania II when King Kong Bundy with manager Bobby the Brain Heenan challenged Hulk Hogan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

To make matters worse, this is one of the more lackluster steel cage matches in existence. It certainly pales in comparison to the Harley Race vs. Ric Flair bloody technical brawling from Starrcade. Even Hogan's steel cage match with Big Bossman on Saturday Night's main event was better.

In short, this legacy needs to be replaced by a good steel cage match in the main event. C'mon, WWE, it's been thirty years!

#5 Batista

A long time before Dave Bautista started making millions of dollars playing a big, musclebound lug named Drax, he made millions of dollars playing a big, musclebound lug named Batista.

Batista started his wrestling career relatively late, in his thirties, but that was no impediment to his success. Trained by Dean Malenko specifically to be a main event talent, Batista wound up in the star-studded Evolution stable soon after his debut. It wasn't long before he wore gold, teaming with the Legendary Nature Boy Ric Flair.

Inevitably, as all good things must, Evolution came to an end, and Batista turned on his former leader and mentor Triple H. Batista did a rare thing and bypassed the mid-card completely to become World Heavyweight Champion in just a few short years.

Ever since his rise to movie stardom, fans have warmed up to the idea of a Batista return. Just don't have him beat Daniel Bryan for his spot this time!

#6 Tag team wrestling that matters

One of the most memorable moments from Wrestlemania is when Strike Force--Tito Santana and Rick Martel--defeated the much more heavily favored veteran team the Hart Foundation for the WWE Tag Team titles.

A year later, they were themselves defeated by Demolition in another memorable bout that launched one of the longest tag team title reigns in modern history.

However, the last few years have seen tag team wrestling treated as an afterthought rather than a major event. Sometimes the tag team matches are even relegated to the Wrestlemania pre-show instead of the prestigious event itself. This sends the wrong message to the fans about how they should perceive tag team wrestling.

At Wrestlemania 35, fans want to see the tag team division treated as something special again, just as it was in the past.

#7 A non-wrestling appearance by Roman Reigns

In one of the more heartbreaking WWE moments of 2018, the Big Dog Roman Reigns was forced to relinquish his hard-won WWE Universal Championship when he was diagnosed with a recurrence of leukemia.

While it seems unlikely that his treatment will be far enough along for a wrestling return at Wrestlemania 35, that doesn't mean that fans still don't want his presence. Roman could make a special appearance, give a speech about how he's doing, or even do some commentary or act as a valet for one of his former Shield mates (probably Seth Rollins since Ambrose has turned heel).

Despite being an ultimately polarizing figure in the sports entertainment world, Roman Reigns has nonetheless been in the main event of Wrestlemania for the past several years, and his absence will be noted unless WWE brings him in for a special appearance.

#8 Some celebrity cameos

Mike Tyson was the special enforcer for Shawn Michaels vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

In an effort to make Wrestlemania feel more special, and not just a slightly bigger pro wrestling event, Vince McMahon has often made a concerted effort to include celebrities in the show.

This includes music industry legends like Cyndi Lauper, who accompanied Wendy Richter to the ring for her victorious Wrestlemania match against the Fabulous Moolah, to Mike Tyson, who punched out Shawn Michaels after turning on D-Generation X.

Other celebrities included a pre-presidential Donald Trump and Snoop Dogg. Then, on occasion, there are those celebrities who actually lace up the boots and wrestle, like Lawrence Turner--LT--when he took on Bam Bam Bigelow in the main event of Wrestlemania XI.

Fans would like to see some celebrity appearances to give Wrestlemania 35 that 'big match feel,' rather than just seeming like a glorified run of the mill pay per view.

#9 Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

The most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Will he be at Wrestlemania 35? The fans certainly hope that he will
The most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Will he be at Wrestlemania 35? The fans certainly hope that he will

One man who can qualify as a wrestling legend, a bonafide celebrity, AND an in-ring performer is none other than former WWE World Heavyweight, Intercontinental, and Tag Team Champion Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

It seems like every time the Rock laces up the boots at a Wrestlemania, he instantly steals most of the media interest in the event. Whether he was tagging with former Rock n Sock connection teammate Mick Foley, or taking on John Cena in the main event for the WWE World title, or even wrestling a dream match against Hollywood Hulk Hogan, the Rock is certainly the man you'd want drawing for your Wrestlemania card.

Fans certainly hope to see Mr. Dwayne the Rock Johnson at Wrestlemania 35, especially if he laces up the boots and drops a few People's Elbows on some hapless jabroni.

#10 Watching the Deadman wrestle on the Grandest Stage of Them All

Will the Undertaker himself lace up the boots in a Wrestlemania ring ever again?
Will the Undertaker himself lace up the boots in a Wrestlemania ring ever again?

Will he or won't he?

The term 'retired' doesn't have the same meaning it used to when it comes to professional wrestling. At one time, if a wrestler said they were done, they were done. Not so any longer.

Wrestlers like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, and--most especially--The Undertaker are no longer full-time performers. In fact, it's quite rare for them to actually get in the ring for more than interviews or promos at this stage of the game.

But they do still get in the ring from time to time, especially for huge shows like Crown Jewel and the Super Showdown. Even Ric Flair has stated he's cleared to take bumps and might wrestle again someday.

One man who seems always willing to cast off the 'retired' label and get in the ring is the Undertaker. While he is definitely past his prime and can be viewed as mostly a special attraction, the lure of another Wrestlemania match might be just too much for the Deadman to turn down.

Fans hope to see the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 35, and it just might happen.
