3 Reasons Becky Lynch will win at WrestleMania 35 and 3 Reasons she might lose

The term "changing of the guard" has significant meaning when it pertains to professional wrestling. When a new Superstar comes into their own and takes over the top star spot, then it is referred to as a changing of the guard.

You've likely witnessed at least one changing of the guard during your tenure as a wrestling fan. It happened on January 23, 1984 when a young Terry Bollea--known better by his stage name Hulk Hogan--unseated the Iron Sheik as WWE champion, beginning a five-year reign.

Another changing of the guard happened during the Attitude Era when Shawn Michaels was dethroned from the top star position of the company by Stone Cold Steve Austin. It didn't matter that Austin would take months to actually capture the championship from Michaels, incidentally at Wrestlemania, because Austin was already the top star long before that.

After almost single-handedly winning the Monday Night War for WWE, Stone Cold himself would abdicate top star position to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The changing of the guard had happened once more.

Becky Lynch is this Era's representative of that changing of the guard. Her stardom has catapulted to the stratosphere in a short span of time, and she's done it all her own unique way while challenging gender stereotypes and what it truly means to be a woman wrestler in 2019.

The fans, the dirt sheets, and the speculation of wrestling journalists and critics all seem to point toward a Becky Lynch victory at Wrestlemania 35. Are they correct to put so much faith in her, or is Lynch going to lose? Here are three reasons why Becky Lynch might win at Wrestlemania 35...and three why she might not.

#1 Might Win: The People's Champion

Becky Lynch has that rarest of all elements that make a perfect pro wrestler: Charisma. Without it, a career can flounder. Just ask "Adam Bomb" Bryan Clark, who in spite of being huge and having a great build could never reach the heights of the Hogans and Rocks of wrestling.

But with it, and even the most average or even unskilled wrestler can thrive, and even make it to the top. Hacksaw Jim Duggan, bless his heart, was never a ring technician but his charisma makes him a world known star. Becky Lynch is neither average nor unskilled, and she possesses this charisma.

The people have embraced "The Man" as their spiritual guide for this new era not only in wrestling but in their own lives a well.

Becky Lynch is the new people's champion, and that could mean a victory at Wrestlemania is all but guaranteed.

#1 Might not win: Ronda Rousey is the top female wrestler in the world, not Becky Lynch

Ronda Rousey
Ronda Rousey

By virtue of the fact that she is the current Raw Women's Champion, Ronda Rousey is the top female wrestler in the world--period.

Not only that, she is a household name even among people who don't watch pro wrestling. As popular as Becky Lynch is with pro wrestling fans, she can't command the amount of media spotlight which will be shone upon Ronda Rousey.

Rousey's Olympic and UFC background mean that she can lay claim to legitimate combat sports experience, something that Becky Lynch cannot say. When you add it all up, Rousey is a megastar while Becky Lynch is still on the rise.

Maybe someday Lynch will surpass her, but it hasn't happened yet. Ronda Rousey has all the tools and all the reasons to walk away as the winner at WrestleMania 35 instead of Lynch.

#2 Might Win: Her command of social media makes her a great candidate for champion

When it comes to social media, few professional wrestlers have managed to so completely and utterly use it to their advantage quite like Becky Lynch, with the possible exception of the Elite because they formed their own company out of a podcast, which is epic.

But getting back to Lynch, one look at her Twitter feed and you'll be gasping at her audacity, fearlessness, and mastery of the social media posting art form. While she has triggered responses from everyone, such as Corey Graves (whom Lynch called a middle aged emo poured into skinny jeans) to Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch always seems to have the upper hand in these exchanges.

Maybe it's that quick Irish wit, but Lynch is as adept in cyberspace as she is in the ring or on the mike, a great combination for a modern era champion.

#2 Might not win: Charlotte has a ton of momentum going into Wrestlemania 35

While Becky Lynch is definitely popular with the fans, and Ronda Rousey is the current 'it girl' of the moment, one must not discount the dark horse in the whole WrestleMania 35 main event equation: Charlotte Flair.

The daughter of the legendary Nature Boy Ric Flair has been around the business for literally her entire life. Wrestling is in her blood, and she has proven to be not only as good as her father in the ring but better.

Charlotte dethroned the Empress of Tomorrow Asuka at last year's Wrestlemania, and this year she could well dethrone Rousey and Lynch to take the championships for herself.

Charlotte's knee while handcuffed to the equally handcuffed Ronda Rousey is probably going to be as iconic as Austin spraying the McMahons with beer or Ultimate Warrior with both belts. She could end up spoiling things for Lynch and her fans.

#3 Might Win: The WWE Needs Becky Lynch right now

Becky Lynch is the antihero of her era, just as Austin was of his own
Becky Lynch is the antihero of her era, just as Austin was of his own

When Stone Cold Steve Austin captured the WWE championship from Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 14, it was because the WWE needed him to be their champion, their top draw for ratings, the conversation piece of their organization.

It worked, and WWE won the Monday Night Wars. Now, the WWE is facing a new challenger in the form of All Elite Wrestling, even as New Japan and Ring of Honor encroach on traditional WWE territory Madison Square Garden.

Even Lucha Underground and Impact seem to be staying afloat. The WWE needs a figurehead, a Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold to stay relevant and on top.

That figurehead is Becky Lynch. And that's why she is going to win the first ever woman's title match main event of WrestleMania 35.

#3 Might not win: Becky doesn't need the championship to be the top star

Lynch has the ability to unite an audience at the moment

Before her most recent title reign as SmackDown Women's champion, Becky Lynch had a previous reign with the big belt. However, most don't remember it, because at the time Becky Lynch was not experiencing the dizzying heights of popularity she is now.

She wasn't unpopular; Lynch had plenty of cheers, but now the entire audience lights up for her in a way that hasn't really been seen since the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Certainly, John Cena could never unite an audience behind him as Becky Lynch has done.

For these and many other reasons, Becky Lynch simply does not NEED the women's championship to be the top star.

Even during Austin's time, he wasn't always the WWE champion; sometimes he was pursuing the belt, or engaged in a more personal feud. He didn't need the title to be the top star in the company, and neither does Lynch.
