Today, there is Ring of Honour, New Japan Pro Wrestling and Global Force Wrestling (formerly Impact Wrestling and TNA). In the 2000s, there was TNA; in the 1990s, the Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW were in full-effect. And, before that, we had the numerous wrestling territories of the United States.

So, it's expected that most wrestlers would not be sticking around in just one organisation even if that one organisation is a massive one like the WWE. We have the likes of AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, and Shinsuke Nakamura who all made their names on the indie circuit before coming over to the WWE.

But, there are a select few who have only ever wrestled for the WWE. And today, we're here to explore those names. Here is our list of 5 WWE superstars who have wrestled only for the WWE:

Please Note: We have ignored minor indie promotions for the purpose of this list.

#5 Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt comes from a family that has rich wrestling history. His father wrestled under the name of IRS while his grandfather was Blackjack Mulligan. Even his brother - Bo Dallas - wrestles in the WWE today. So, it's little surprise that Bray has taken up the family business.

What is surprising though is his path to becoming a household name. He dropped out of college in order to pursue a developmental contract with the WWE and made his jump to the main roster as Husky Harris, a member of The Nexus.

His failure under that gimmick meant that he was sent back to developmental where he built the character of Bray Wyatt with the help of Triple H and the rest of the FCW crew - which would eventually become NXT.

He soon made his return to the main roster as the leader of the Wyatt Family and The Eater of Worlds has been appreciated by wrestling fans ever since...

#4 Braun Strowman

... and speaking of the Wyatt Family, here is another man who made his debut as part of the cult-like group. Braun Strowman might have been late to the Wyatt Family party, but it's incredible how much he has improved over the years - and especially this past year.

Strowman was originally a Strongman Competitor and decided to join up with the WWE's developmental program with no prior experience in professional wrestling. He spent a couple of years in developmental before being called up to the main roster.

While he initially struggled with his lack of experience, Strowman has gone into hyper drive over the past twelve months as he has established himself as a singles competitor.

Today, he is the most feared big man in the company and it's easy to forget how inexperienced Strowman actually is.

#3 Roman Reigns

Much like Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns joined up with the WWE's developmental program with no prior experience in professional wrestling. After a failed effort to become a part of the NFL, Reigns played American football in the CFL before calling it quits on that part of his career.

Despite this, his father is one part of the Wild Samoans and he is part of the legendary Anao'i family so it was a logical career choice.

He soon joined up with the WWE and rose to superstardom when he was teamed with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to form The Shield. The rest, as they say, is history.

He might be a much-maligned figure in the world of professional wrestling today but you can't take away from his amazing accomplishments in a short period of time, especially without any exposure to the indie wrestling scene.

#2 Randy Orton

Wrestling has always been in Randy Orton's blood. He comes from a legendary wrestling family and his father is Cowboy Bob Orton. Despite that, his initial goal was to be a part of the US Marine Corps and he was even enlisted before getting dishonourably discharged.

This led to Orton getting into the family business, so to speak. While he did wrestle in a local Missouri wrestling promotion that was run by his uncle, his first major break came when he joined WWE's developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling.

It is there that he built his skills and eventually made the jump to the main roster to become a part of Evolution and establish himself as one of the biggest names in the professional wrestling industry today.

It's hardly a surprise that Orton never toured the indie circuit looking at his disdain for everything not WWE.

#1 John Cena

...as did John Cena
John Cena at the start of his career

"Mr Face of the WWE" never wrestled for any other promotion. Originally a body builder, John Cena developed an interest in professional wrestling and wrestled shortly for a local Californian wrestling promotion before being offered a developmental contract at Ohio Valley Wrestling at the same time as Randy Orton.

Cena would rise quickly through the ranks and make his now-famous debut against Kurt Angle.

It has been a one-way street to the top of the food chain from there and today, Cena is a 16-time World Champion - the joint holder of the record for most World Titles along with the legendary Nature Boy, Ric Flair.
