5 Interesting facts that might surprise you heading into WWE WrestleMania 36

WrestleMania 36 will have no live audience this year.
WrestleMania 36 will have no live audience this year.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year's edition of WrestleMania will be significantly different to all previous WWE Pay-Per-Views. This is due to the absence of a live audience witnessing the Showcase Of The Immortals for the first time in thirty six years. This year’s edition of WrestleMania will still have several dream matches including Drew McIntyre against Brock Lesnar, where the Scotsman will look to prove to the WWE Universe that eliminating Brock Lesnar at this year’s Royal Rumble match was no fluke. Also on the card, there are other exciting matches including AJ Styles looking to be the third man to beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania, while John Cena will face Bray Wyatt’s alter-ego, The Fiend.

With the exception of the fact that this will be the first time the PPV will be held at the WWE Performance Center without a live audience, there are a number of other interesting facts that WWE fans may not have noticed heading into WrestleMania 36.

#5 Charlotte will be in a Women’s Championship match for a fifth consecutive year

Charlotte Flair will be aiming to win the NXT Women's Championship for the second time.
Charlotte Flair will be aiming to win the NXT Women's Championship for the second time.

Once dubbed the ‘Queen of pay-per-views’ due to the fact she hadn’t lost a singles match in a PPV for eighteen months, Charlotte Flair has simply done everything there is to do in WWE. She’s a ten-time Women's Champion, competed in the first-ever All Women’s Main Event at WrestleMania 35 and won the Women’s Royal Rumble match this year.

Another impressive addition to Charlotte’s list of accolades is that this will be the fifth consecutive year that she’s been in a Women’s Championship match. Her first appearance at the PPV was at WrestleMania 32 when she became the new Women’s Champion while also retiring the Divas Championship.

Despite being unable to repeat the same feat again the following year, falling short to Bayley, she bounced back at WrestleMania 34, where she would go on to successfully defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka, snapping the Japanese Superstar's undefeated streak in the process as well. Although she came up short again at last year's WrestleMania, she still created history by defending the SmackDown Women's Championship in the main event of last year's show.

After winning the Royal Rumble match, she became automatically eligible to compete for any title of her choosing, and will lock horns with Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Championship. Taking into consideration that no female Superstar in WWE history has participated in a Women’s Championship match for five consecutive years at the Showcase Of Immortals, this makes her appearance at WrestleMania 36 another historical landmark.

#4 This will be the first time in 13 years Triple H may not compete at WrestleMania

It is highly unlikely Triple H will be wrestling at this year's WrestleMania
It is highly unlikely Triple H will be wrestling at this year's WrestleMania

Triple H is no stranger to competing at WrestleMania - with the exception of The Undertaker, he has made the most appearances at the annual PPV, competing on 23 separate occasions.

His first match at WrestleMania was back in 1996, when he fought The Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania XII. Although he came up short against the WWE Hall Of Famer, losing in less than two minutes, he would go on to have more memorable moments at The Grandest Stage Of Them All. This includes having unforgettable matches against The Undertaker whilst attempting to break his streak on three separate occasions, and also headlining the pay-per-view seven times.

In fact, since his first WrestleMania appearance, Triple H has appeared in every WrestleMania since (with the exception of WrestleMania 23 due to a legitimate injury a few months earlier). Taking into consideration that most of the current WWE roster wasn’t in the company since Triple H’s last absence at the PPV, this is an impressive feat.

With less than two weeks to go, the fact that all wrestling events are being held behind closed doors combined with the fact there’s no suggestion of Triple H feuding with anyone soon, it is safe to say that The Game may miss his first WrestleMania in 13 years, and second overall in his legendary career.

#3 This will be the sixth consecutive WrestleMania where Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns has been in a major Championship match

Lesnar and Reigns consistently find themselves in the major Championship matches over the past five WrestleManias

Over the years, there have been a small handful of Superstars who consistently headlined WrestleMania. In the first nine WrestleManias, Hulk Hogan ended up in the main event on eight different occasions. From WrestleMania 15 to WrestleMania 17, The Rock headlined for three consecutive years, and more recently, John Cena also main evented five times in the span of eight years from WrestleMania 22 to WrestleMania 29.

With WWE’s continuously growing main roster, it is tough for any Superstar to keep the limelight on them. However, this doesn’t seem to apply to Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, who, between the two of them, have been part of a major Championship match at WrestleMania for the past five years in a row.

Not only did they compete against each other at WrestleMania 31 for the WWE Championship and WrestleMania 34 for the Universal Championship respectively, but Reigns also fought for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 32 against Triple H, while Lesnar faced Goldberg for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 and defended the same Championship at WrestleMania 35 against Seth Rollins.

The last time neither of these two was in a major Championship match is back at WrestleMania XXX when Daniel Bryan beat Batista and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.

This year they’ll be extending this record for a sixth time, as Brock Lesnar will face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship, while The Big Dog will be looking to beat Goldberg for the Universal Championship.

#2 The United States Championship will not be defended for the first time since WrestleMania XXX

Andrade will now be contending for the Raw Tag Team Championships
Andrade will now be contending for the Raw Tag Team Championships

It is not uncommon that several Championships change every year at WrestleMania. At least three Championships have changed hands in each of the past five WrestleManias, with a record-breaking eight new champions being crowned at WrestleMania 35.

However, one Championship that is very unlikely to change at WrestleMania 36 is the United States Championship. In the past five years, the United States Championship has always been a part of WrestleMania, with matches including John Cena, Kevin Owens and Jinder Mahal winning the Championship off of Rusev, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton respectively whilst Kalisto successfully fought off Ryback at WrestleMania 32, and Samoa Joe beat Rey Mysterio in just one minute at WrestleMania 35.

As it stands, the current United States Champion, Andrade is scheduled to team up with Angel Garza against The Street Profits for the RAW Tag Team Championship, with no suggestion he’ll be defending his own Championship as well. Taking into consideration that very few Superstars get the opportunity to wrestle twice in a single WrestleMania, this is likely to be Andrade’s only match on the Grandest Stage of Them All this year.

#1 Sasha Banks is yet to win from four appearances at WrestleMania

Will Sasha Banks break her losing streak at WrestleMania 36?
Will Sasha Banks break her losing streak at WrestleMania 36?

Sasha Banks has a career that most female Superstars could only dream of. From being part of the first-ever All Women’s main event to headline a WWE PPV alongside Charlotte Flair, becoming the No.1 entrant in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018, to becoming one half of the first-ever inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions in 2019 with Bayley, The Boss continues to make history time and time again. In addition to all of this, she has also won the Raw Women’s Championship on four different occasions.

While The Boss has done so much in her career, a win at WrestleMania is yet to happen. In her previous appearances, she failed to win the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania 32 and 33, losing to Charlotte and Bayley respectively.

She then came up short in the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34, and failed to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships, falling to The IIconics at last year’s event.

Banks will be heading into her fifth consecutive WrestleMania competing in a Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match competing for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, where her friend, Bayley, will be defending the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Although she will want to help Bayley retain her title, part of her will be desperate to capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career and also have her WrestleMania moment by ending her losing streak.
