5 OMG moments from WWE SmackDown Live & 205 Live (19 December, 2017)

Dolph Ziggler left his United States title in the middle of the ring

Let’s be honest, this week’s episodes of SmackDown Live and 205 Live were a little disappointing.

After their respective victories over Jinder Mahal and Natalya at Clash of Champions, we’re no closer to knowing who will challenge AJ Styles and Charlotte Flair for their titles next.

As for the other championships on the blue brand, it looks like Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin will continue to feud with The Usos over the Tag Team titles, while the future of the United States title – and its new holder Dolph Ziggler – is up in the air.

In this article, we take a look at five ‘OMG’ moments from Tuesday night’s WWE programming – from a SmackDown Live retirement hint to a potential heel turn on 205 Live.

#5 Daniel Bryan compares Shane McMahon to Vince

The first ‘OMG’ moment of the night saw Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon engage in a heated war of words over their refereeing disagreements at Clash of Champions.

When Shane dared suggest that he tried to screw Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn because he is looking at what’s best “from a business standpoint”, Bryan thought the words sounded eerily familiar.

D-Bry was constantly being told by Triple H throughout 2013-14 that he wasn’t “best for business”, and the SmackDown Live General Manager suggested that Shane O’Mac was showing similar traits to his father, Vince McMahon, who is widely considered the most power-hungry authority figure of all time.

This prompted a reaction from Shane that just screamed ‘OMG’, and as is the way whenever someone’s father is mentioned these days, the WWE Universe began to chant “who's your daddy?”.

#4 The Usos lose clean

After such an impressive showing at Clash of Champions, it wasn’t too surprising to see Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin face The Usos in a non-title match on SmackDown Live.

Gable was the star of the show from the Fatal 4-Way tag match at the pay-per-view, suplexing anyone and everyone that moved, while Benjamin produced his best in-ring performance since his WWE return earlier this year.

It was a little surprising, however, that the increasingly popular duo picked up a clean victory against SmackDown Live Tag Team champions The Usos in the first match of the night on Tuesday.

That puts the duo in line as number one contenders to face Jimmy & Jey again, this time with the titles at stake, in the not-too-distant future.

#3 Is Hideo Itami going to be a heel?

Hideo Itami was one of the biggest babyfaces on NXT before he suffered the first of two serious injuries during his time with the brand.

Frustration over his lack of progress in the company then led to a heel turn in May of this year, which looked to be short-lived when he made his Raw debut alongside fan favourite Finn Balor to face Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas on Monday.

However, despite his demeanour during his appearance on Raw, it looks as though the Japanese Superstar will continue to portray a similar character to the one we’ve seen over the last few months in NXT.

He debuted on 205 Live with a quick and easy victory over Colin Delaney and showed no signs of being a babyface at all throughout the match.

#2 Dolph Ziggler relinquishes the United States title?

One of the most surprising moments at Clash of Champions saw Dolph Ziggler, a regular loser over the last 12 months, win the United States title from Baron Corbin.

“The Lone Wolf” looked set to retain his championship with an End of Days on Bobby Roode in the Triple Threat match, only for Dolph to hit him with a Zig Zag to win his second US title.

During a ‘Championship Celebration’ on SmackDown Live, a disgruntled "Show Off” listed his career achievements before placing his title down in the middle of the ring to give fans “something to remember him by”. He then walked to the back without his new championship.

If that’s the last we’ve seen of Ziggler in a WWE ring – one suspects he’ll be back soon enough – then it was certainly a unique way to go out!

#1 Water bottle hits Kalisto in the face

Incidents between ‘fans’ and Superstars happen far more often than they should. Remember when CM Punk struck an audience member after being pushed around in the crowd? Or when Randy Orton was attacked on a tour of South Africa? Or, more recently, when someone had the stupidity to lay their hands on Braun Strowman?

Well, Tuesday’s episode of 205 Live saw another incident between a ‘fan’ and a Superstar following Kalisto and Gran Metalik’s disqualification victory over The Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher.

The villainous duo continued to attack their opponents after the match and then left Kalisto laying on the mat outside the ring while they walked away up the entrance ramp.

That’s when WWE cameras caught the moment that a water bottle, seemingly thrown by someone in the crowd, struck the former Cruiserweight champion in the face.
