Well, that was one hell of a main event at WWE Summerslam 2017. The Fatal 4-way match that saw Brock Lesnar defend his position as the reigning, defending, undisputed WWE Universal Champion against Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe, was far better than anyone ever expected it to be and proved to be a masterpiece.

But, with the dust settled and the big WWE pay-per-views coming thick and fast, one wonders what's next for "The Beast Incarnate"? Who can step up and challenge for the top belt on Monday Night Raw after three of the brand's most fearsome competitors failed to stop Lesnar at "The Biggest Party of the Summer"?

It is certainly an intriguing scenario and one that allows us professional wrestling fans to speculate and fantasize about what comes next. If the rumours of another potential Superstar Shakeup are true, then it brings more factors into the equation over from Smackdown Live.

So, without any further ado, let's get into our list of 5 potential opponents for Brock Lesnar after WWE Summerslam 2017:

#5 Randy Orton

Orton will have payback on his mind
Orton will have payback on his mind

We start things off with the most unlikely entry on this list but one that has possibilities due to the aforementioned potential Superstar Shakeup. If there is indeed going to be a swap of brands for the WWE's biggest competitors, it's most likely that Randy Orton will be heading over to Monday Night Raw.

His character has become stale on Smackdown Live and there no great feuds left for "The Viper" on Tuesday nights, so it would make sense for him to start afresh on the red brand. And what better way to start afresh than with a shot at WWE Universal Championship.

Remember, Orton still has a score to settle with "The Beast Incarnate" after the brutal beatdown he suffered last year during the main event of WWE Summerslam 2016. So, it would make sense to see the 13-time World Champion make a play for the top prize on Raw.

#4 Samoa Joe

Can Lesnar survive another encounter with Joe?
Can Lesnar survive another encounter with Joe?

"Wait," I hear you say. "Hasn't Samoa Joe already received enough chances at the WWE Universal Championship?" Well, kind of.

During his one on one encounter with Brock Lesnar, "The Destroyer" took him to the limit, and during the Fatal 4-way match at WWE Summerslam 2017, he wasn't the one who has pinned.

If the WWE wants to keep Joe's momentum rolling and keep him at the top of the card, he would be the perfect opponent for "The Beast Incarnate". Because, at the end of the day, he is only one of two men who has even come close to taking out Lesnar since Wrestlemania 33 in April.

So, it's just a simple question of whether the WWE's creative team and Vince McMahon want to give Joe another shot at the gold or not.

#3 John Cena

There is unfinished business here
There is unfinished business here

While the Superstar Shakeup is a rumour that hasn't received a lot of traction, there is another method for John Cena to turn up on Monday Night Raw: his status as a free agent.

It seems to have been forgotten since his return, but "The Face That Runs the Place" is indeed a free agent who is free to appear on either Monday Night Raw or Smackdown Live.

And, the major consensus is that Cena will indeed be appearing on the red brand on the episode following WWE Summerslam 2017. And, it makes sense.

Just like Randy Orton, there isn't much left for him on Smackdown Live and he always seems to have unfinished business against "The Beast Incarnate".

A feud between the former OVW alumni will also add an air of unpredictability as almost everyone expects Lesnar to retain his WWE Universal Championship during his last few encounters.

#2 Finn Balor

Oh, this would be lovely
Oh, this would be lovely

Finn Balor is finally back. A year after he won the WWE Universal Championship at WWE Summerslam 2016, it finally feels like he's back in the hunt for the title that he never lost in the first place.

The program against Bray Wyatt was his first major one since his return from injury and he looks as good as ever.

Balor has already spoken about his desire to take on Brock Lesnar and challenge to regain the WWE Universal Championship and this might be the perfect time for the WWE to pull the trigger on that.

There aren't too many top guys left to face "The Beast Incarnate" and "The Demon King" provides a unique type of challenge. Let the Irishman have his moment in the spotlight once again and try to earn his redemption.

#1 Braun Strowman

Lesnar got a taste of what Strowman is capable of at WWE Summerslam 2017

After the main event of WWE Summerslam 2017, there doesn't seem to be a better option for Brock Lesnar's next opponent than Braun Strowman. His manhandling of Lesnar at the start of the encounter was something we have never seen before and cements "The Monster Among Men" as the biggest threat to The Beast Incarnate's reign as WWE Universal Champion.

Now, if it were up to me, I would save this encounter until WWE Wrestlemania 34, but it seems like that main event is set in stone with Roman Reigns being hand-picked to face off against Lesnar on "The Grandest Stage of Them All".

So, in the meantime, we might as well enjoy seeing how Lesnar and Paul Heyman deal with the monstrous threat of Braun Strowman.
