5 Reasons why Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns seems like the next big feud for the WWE Universal Championship

Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns could certainly tear it up
Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns could certainly tear it up

As SmackDown went off the air this week, one thing was made clear to the audience watching in the ThunderDome and the millions watching at home, all across the WWE Universe. Roman Reigns' next opponent will be none other than Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship.

Now, Kevin Owens is certainly a very interesting choice for the WWE Universal Championship picture, especially if you consider the manner in which he has been used in recent months.

Why did WWE choose Kevin Owens ahead of others like Big E, Aleister Black, and even Rey Mysterio to take on Roman Reigns next?

Here are five reasons why WWE may be giving us a Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens feud. Feel free to agree or disagree in the comments section. All of your comments are valued and truly appreciated.

#5 Kevin Owens could lose this feud and it'll still be a step up for him

Kevin Owens, for all of his talent, has been doing almost nothing at all, and it's high time that he does something, even if he comes up on the losing end against someone like Roman Reigns.

Listen, Roman Reigns is the most legitimate Champion in all of pro wrestling at the moment, and it is likely that Kevin Owens will lose the feud when he goes up against The Tribal Chief.

And yet, it will still be a major step up for him when this happens because he was just another guy in the men's team at Survivor Series until recently, who got eliminated with no fanfare at all.

Plus, who better for a TLC match than someone like Kevin Owens, who has a background in this style, from his time in the independents?

Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens will be a match and a half, if and when it happens!

#4 Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns have proved in the past that they have great chemistry

Once upon a time, Kevin Owens was the top heel on the RAW brand and was the Universal Champion before a certain Goldberg arrived and brought his reign to an untimely end. During this time, he had several titanic battles with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, both of whom were babyfaces.

AEW megastar Chris Jericho was involved in the feud as well, as Kevin Owens and Le Champion united for one of the most entertaining heel tandems long before The Inner Circle was even a thing. The point that we're trying to make here is that Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens have worked together in the past, and the results have been awesome.

Even back then, the audience would root for Kevin Owens over Roman Reigns because booing Roman Reigns was the cool thing to do.

So now, they have the chance to cheer him on as the babyface as he goes up against the top heel in the entire company right now.

#3 Saving Roman Reigns vs. Big E and Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan for down the line

While many are of the opinion that Big E should have entered the WWE Universal Championship picture against Roman Reigns instead of the WWE Intercontinental Championship picture against Sami Zayn, it may have been the right decision to keep the two powerhouses away for the time being on SmackDown.

Big E is likely to come up short against Roman Reigns at this juncture, but if he wins the Royal Rumble, for example, Roman Reigns vs. Big E can take place at a massive stage like WrestleMania 37.

Roman Reigns can run through one babyface after another until then, from Aleister Black to Kevin Owens to Rey Mysterio to Murphy and even someone like Daniel Bryan, all the way until Big E stops him dead in his tracks.

Of course, this is pure speculation, but so is most of this article.

Big E vs. Roman Reigns feels like a big match, and doing it at TLC would have been a mistake.

#2 The possibility of Kevin Owens and Paul Heyman engaging in truly heated promo battles

There is probably nobody more gifted on the microphone in the current WWE active roster than Paul Heyman, someone who has been Brock Lesnar's advocate and mouthpiece for the longest time. At the same time, if someone does come close, it is Kevin Owens, who can be serious when he wants to and absolutely hilarious when he chooses to be. Nobody buys tickets after the bell rings, as they say, and so Paul Heyman and Kevin Owens could talk us into investing in this feud with their promos.

They do say that there are few that can hold their own against Paul Heyman, which may be true, but if there's anyone that comes close to him in terms of promo skills, it is certainly Kevin Owens, one of WWE's most entertaining characters.

Plus, the current incarnation of Roman Reigns is no slouch on the microphone either, and so his verbal duels with Kevin Owens could certainly be gold as well.

#1 The element of doubt that Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns creates for fans

We can all agree that Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso has been the best feud all year from WWE but at the same time, there was no point where any of us assumed that Jey Uso would become the WWE Universal Champion at all. However, with the inclusion of Kevin Owens into the WWE Universal Championship picture, there is certainly an element of doubt as to whether Roman Reigns can defeat Owens or not, and the outcome isn't nearly as crystal clear as it was with Jey Uso.

While there was no scenario in which Jey Uso could have been presented as the face of the SmackDown brand, with Kevin Owens you never know. It is unlikely that he will defeat Roman Reigns, but this underdog vs. top star storyline is something that has captured the imagination of thousands for years.
