5 reasons why Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre won the Raw Tag Team Titles

Monday Night Raw pulled out a few huge surprises this week, but perhaps none more huge than the B Team dropping the Raw Tag Team Titles to surprise opponents Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.

It's always surprising when a major title change happens on regular weekly WWE programming, but the way this title change happened makes it even more surprising. The heel duo attacked the Revival backstage and replaced them in the match.

But, why did the WWE put the title belts on Ziggler and McIntyre? Here are five reasons for the company to do so!

#5 The B Team had run their course as champions

The Raw tag team division has been somewhat of a joke which is exactly how a novelty comedy duo like Dallas and Axel found themselves rising to the top of it, and even claiming its top prize.

As entertaining as it was to see them get their first win and manically celebrate it, and then to string along a series of wins and then finally win the Raw Tag Team Titles there wasn't much further they could go. As a result, taking the belts off of them now before Hell in a Cell is a good decision.

#4 It solidifies Ziggler and McIntyre as heels

If Ziggler and McIntyre are going to join forces with Strowman to go up against the biggest and arguably most successful group of WWE's modern era then it stands to reason that they need to be just as comparatively evil.

Having them attack a tag-team backstage, exploit a heel General Manager to get into the match and then end the reign of a hot babyface tag-team solidifies them as heels worthy of facing The Shield. And that's not even taking into account what happened at the end of Raw.

#3 It legitimises Ziggler and McIntyre as top stars and a top threat

The Shield is such a phenomenal group that it does need top stars to oppose it, anyone else and it wouldn't be believable that they could pose a challenge to Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

That's why putting the tag-team titles on Ziggler and McIntyre raises their worth and stock in the WWE and makes them suitable challengers for the Shield trio, it also makes them much more credible as a team. Just like The Bar during last year's Tables, Ladders and Chairs build-up and show.

#2 WWE needs more surprise title changes

No-one saw this coming

WWE can, at times, be one of the most painstakingly predictable programmes on television with most sensible people being able to predict who will beat who most of the time. That's why moments like title changes taking place on Raw or SmackDown are necessary.

No-one would have predicted the sequence of events that took place on Raw that led to the B Team losing the tag-team titles, which is exactly why the WWE should do more things like that in the future.

#1 It sets up a dream tag team match for Hell in a Cell or beyond

Now that the titles are on Ziggler and McIntyre, not only can we look forward to the level of tag-team action we see on SmackDown Live, but we can expect the first title feud to be between them and Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, which would be somewhat of a dream match.

Rollins and Ambrose trying to capture the Raw Tag Team Titles against Ziggler and McIntyre will be a great match, and perhaps we'll get it for Hell in a Cell. It could be argued that they didn't need the titles to make the match worthwhile but I think they add something!
