5 Theories behind Randy Orton's controversial Instagram post

Wrestling has never been so popular since WWE is now presenting three live shows each week that total more than seven hours of action each week and that's without their usual Sunday night pay-per-view.

Competition is healthy, which is why it seems that All Elite Wrestling making their debut on TV has pushed WWE to work much harder and their iron really has started to sharpen WWE's product. There's nothing wrong with competition, but the WWE Universe believes that there is a war going on between WWE and AEW because of the fact that there have been shots thrown from both sides over the past few weeks.

Randy Orton has grown up in the wrestling business. He's someone who has defined WWE's product for the past few years and it appears that he has his own views on the issues between them. Earlier today, Orton posted a controversial Tweet that tagged AEW star Cody Rhodes and even forced AEW World Champion Chris Jericho to respond, but what does it mean? Here are a few theories...

#5 Cody Rhodes is below the 'Elite Level'

The sign on the door says "Elite Level" which means that the two people tagged above the photo are above it whilst the three people tagged below must be seen as below it. Considering Rhodes is part of All Elite Wrestling, it makes sense that Orton is firing shots to say that he isn't actually on the Elite level.

Rhodes and Orton were once part of Legacy together a few years ago, but it's unknown if the two men are still friends after the issues that they once had in WWE.

Rhodes has been tearing it up in AEW over the past few weeks and has easily proved that he was right to make his own company and show WWE what they were missing, so it's likely not Orton throwing shots at Cody Rhodes.

#4 Luke Harper has re-signed with WWE

Has Luke Harper re-signed with WWE?
Has Luke Harper re-signed with WWE?

Luke Harper has been quite outspoken about WWE over the past few months whilst being stuck on the sidelines recovering from injury. A few months ago, the former Intercontinental Champion made the choice to share publicly that he had requested his release from WWE after waiting on the sidelines to be used whilst Erick Rowan recovered from surgery last year.

Harper has since returned to WWE TV and been partnered with Rowan in his feud with Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan, but the two superstars were split up in the WWE draft last week which means bigger things could be planned for Harper moving forward.

If Harper has retracted his request and is now looking to remain part of WWE, then this could be what Orton is referencing since three of the men on this post have already handed in release requests, but the company has made the decision to refuse to accept any of them.

It will be interesting to see if WWE do anything with Harper now he's alone once again, or if they allow him to return to re-align with Rowan in the near future.

#3 Randy Orton wants The Revival to re-sign

Randy Orton and The Revival worked together on WWE TV a few weeks ago when The Apex Predator was trying to send a message to Kofi Kingston ahead of their WWE Championship match. Orton is a former World Champion, but he was unable to get past Kingston at SummerSlam, so he turned to The Revival for help neutralizing The New Day ahead of their return match at Clash of Champions.

Kingston was once again victorious and it appears that the former World Champion has now moved on without The Revival since he was moved back over to Monday Night Raw. The Revival are SmackDown Tag Team Champions, but the duo hasn't been booked as Champions over the past few weeks and could be looking to walk away from WWE when their contracts expire in the coming months.

Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were pinned in the eight-man Tag Team match on SmackDown on Friday night in the buildup to Crown Jewel and if that's a sign of things to come then it's likely that The Revival won't be re-signing when their contracts expire.

#2 Riddick Moss and Luke Harper could be looking to leave?

What does the future hold for Luke Harper?
What does the future hold for Luke Harper?

It's strange that Riddick Moss has been tagged in this update since reports surrounding the NXT star when he suffered an injury last year were that he may not be able to return to the ring. There was a time when Daniel Bryan wasn't cleared by WWE's Doctors and now finally Bryan has returned to the ring and has proved that the company was right to clear him.

It could be that the WWE Universe is looking at this post the wrong way, maybe Luke Harper and Riddick Moss are already out of the door looking to be signed by AEW and now there are rumors linking Randy Orton to a possible move as well. Perhaps the 'tick-tock' part of the update is aimed at The Revival who are still yet to decide what their future actually holds since they were also looking to walk away from WWE a few months ago but are now the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions, so it appears that they could have changed their minds.

Does this mean Luke Harper has decided that being split from Erick Rowan was enough to see him out the door?

#1 It doesn't mean anything, Orton just wants to get people talking

There were rumors regarding Randy Orton heading to AEW earlier in the week and everyone knows that Randy Orton likes to get people talking. The likes of Cody Rhodes, Elias, Chris Jericho, The Revival, Luke Harper, and Riddick Moss are all tagged in this image so it's hard to see what connects all of these men.

Orton could have seen this "Elite Level" sign on the door and decided that he wants to see how much further the "Dirt Sheets" will look into it and see if the rumors about his move to AEW will intensify.

Orton is very smart, he knows how to ensure that people are talking about him and considering this update has gone viral it's worked. Orton definitely has a future in WWE and is a future Hall of Famer, so a move to AEW probably wouldn't be in his best interest, but that doesn't mean that Orton won't fan the flames of this fire as much as he can and with the help of Jericho he could easily convince the WWE Universe that AEW is in his immediate future.
