WWE Hall of Famer Edge has had one of the most incredible comeback stories in the history of professional wrestling. After being forced to retire during his prime in 2011 due to severe injuries, he made his miraculous return to WWE in the 2020 Royal Rumble match and has had an incredible run so far.

The Rated-R Superstar was last seen in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania where he challenged Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a triple threat match, also involving Daniel Bryan. While Edge was unable to win the Universal title, his performance was applauded by fans.

He has been on a break since then, but WWE has now seemingly announced his return date as he is being advertised for the July 16th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE's first show back with live fans.

Let's take a look at five things Edge could do when he returns to SmackDown. Comment down and let us know your thoughts on the same.

#5 Edge welcomes fans back to live WWE events in a nostalgic segment

Let's first get to the most obvious option that the company could choose. Edge is one of the most loved and respected WWE Superstars and we might see him kick-off the July 16th episode of SmackDown with a segment, welcoming the fans back to live WWE events.

WWE has been forced to have their shows first without any crowds and then later in the ThunderDome with virtual fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The return of fans to the arena will surely bring new energy to the entire product and Edge could be the perfect candidate to get a roaring first pop from the fans.

If this happens, it would likely be a one-off appearance from him. But fans would surely want to see him kickstart a new feud, which brings us to our next point.

#4 Edge starts a feud against Seth Rollins on SmackDown

Ever since the return of Edge at WWE Royal Rumble 2020, fans have been discussing some dream feuds and matches for the WWE Hall of Famer. One name that always comes up is former Universal Champion Seth Rollins, who also currently performs on the SmackDown brand.

Edge and Rollins have some very interesting history. The two crossed paths in late 2014 during a segment on Monday Night RAW. This was after Team Authority lost to Team Cena and had to give up control. During the segment on RAW, Seth Rollins threatened to break Edge's neck if John Cena didn't reinstate The Authority. Left with no choice, Cena reluctantly agreed and reinstated The Authority.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2020, Rollins claimed that he and Edge have some unfinished business, teasing a future feud.

"If I were to guess, putting myself in Edge’s shoes, I would think he has some unfinished business with Seth Rollins. I can only assume, at some point in time, he’s going to come calling–and I would be happy to answer that call," said Seth Rollins.

The Rated-R Superstar's return to SmackDown on July 16th could see Rollins interrupting him, or even attacking him, to kick-off a feud between the two, possibly leading to a match at WWE SummerSlam 2021. Could this feud also involve their real-life partners Beth Phoenix and Becky Lynch?

#3 Edge has a confrontation with another WWE legend on SmackDown

An 11-time world champion, Edge is one of the biggest stars on WWE's current roster. While he has returned, at the age of 47, it's highly unlikely that he'll be around for a very long time. WWE would surely have that in mind and would be planning some iconic matches and feuds for the Hall of Famer.

Considering that the July 16th episode of Friday Night SmackDown will be a momentous show for WWE, we could see more legends appear on the show alongside Edge and we might see The Rated-R Superstar in a confrontation with one of them.

There have been reports of the company planning an appearance from John Cena on their first show back with fans. If that happens to be true, could we see a heated confrontation between The Leader of Cenation and one of his greatest rivals?

With SummerSlam around the corner by then, we might see WWE book Edge in a nostalgic feud against another legend, leading to a match at SummerSlam 2021 that would help the company get all the mainstream attention.

Which other WWE legend would you want to see Edge have another match against? Could Triple H return for a feud against The Rated-R Superstar?

#2 Edge challenges Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2021

Edge returning on the July 16th episode of Friday Night SmackDown and challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2021 is a real possibility. This might not be what the fans would want to see, but it's a possibility that can't be ruled out.

He won the 2021 men's Royal Rumble match earlier this year. After teasing going after the WWE Champion as well as the NXT Champion, Edge chose to face Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. What was originally supposed to be a singles match between the two turned into a triple threat with Daniel Bryan making his way in it.

At WrestleMania 37, Reigns defeated both Edge and Bryan to retain his Universal Championship. While it would be best for WWE to close that feud, we might see The Rated-R Superstar return and claim that he did not get a fair chance at Roman Reigns and blame Daniel Bryan. He could then challenge The Tribal Chief once again at WWE SummerSlam 2021, possibly in some stipulation match.

#1 Edge announces his entry into the men's Money in the Bank match

It was at WrestleMania 21 where Edge won the first-ever Money in the Bank match in WWE history. After holding on to the briefcase for nearly nine months, he cashed it in at WWE New Year's Revolution on WWE Champion John Cena, immediately after the latter defended his title inside a grueling Elimination Chamber match.

Edge spearing Cena, who had blood pouring down his face after his previous match, to win his first WWE Championship is still considered by many to be one of the best Money in the Bank cash-ins in WWE history.

Interestingly, Money in the Bank 2021 is set to take place on July 18th this year, just two days after the episode of SmackDown for which Edge is being advertised. Could The Rated-R Superstar shock the world by announcing his entry into this year's Money in the Bank match?

Considering his history with injuries, it would be ideal for him to stay away from such stipulation matches that involve high risks. But in the last year or so since his return, we've seen Edge take chair shots to his head and compete in a Last Man Standing match. One can't completely rule out the possibility of him going the extra step and entering the Money in the Bank match this year.
