5 Things WWE should do with Sting on the SmackDown season premiere

What does WWE have planned for Sting on SmackDown?

Sting.

The name alone can send shivers down your spine and that's before his entrance music even hits. He was one of the most iconic Superstars in WCW history and went on to be inducted into The WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. If nothing else, he is a huge part of pro wrestling history and that's what makes any appearance by 'The Icon' a must-see event.

With that stated and WWE.com confirming Sting's appearance on the upcoming premiere episode of Friday Night SmackDown, one has to wonder what exactly the company has planned. Furthermore, one has to wonder what other Superstars he might encounter in the process?

In all honesty, the possibilities are endless and that's what makes his upcoming appearance so interesting. Of course, it's not known exactly what WWE has planned and they will most likely stay mum on the topic to make it more of a surprise, but here are the five best options.

#5. Do a toast

Should Sting do a toast on Friday Night SmackDown?

It might not be the most interesting thing WWE can do with Sting's upcoming appearance on Friday Night SmackDown, but it would still be a fantastic nostalgic moment to rope fans in. Beyond that, Monday Night RAW ended their 25th-anniversary show with a toast from 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, which is another reason why this would be a good idea.

Another reason this is probably the best option has to do with the fact that Sting suffered a career-ending neck injury a few years ago and hasn't competed since. In fact, between the former WCW champion's age and his injury history, this seems like the safest bet from all perspectives.

In the end, it might not be exactly what WWE fans want when it comes to Sting's appearance, but what do they expect from someone that is limited in what they can do?

#4. 24/7 title win

Will Sting set his sights on The 24/7 title?

While some might find this to be a little hokey, especially after what WWE did at RAW 25, it would still be pretty spectacular to watch Sting win the 24/7 title. The personality contrast alone between R-Truth, Carmella, and Sting would be enough to justify at least several of these segments.

It also goes along with WWE's theme of putting the 24/7 Championship on a legend, which is a fun way to integrate them into television for one evening. The move will also net WWE some publicity with long-time pro wrestling fans and might even go a long way in getting them to keep coming back.

WWE needs to make a statement during their first outing on Friday Night SmackDown and a huge part of that is utilizing the legends they will have at their disposal. Again, it's not going to be the most brilliant booking in history and it might pale in comparison to some of the other possibilities, but its a way to create something interesting.

#3. Attacked by The Fiend

Will Sting be The Fiend's next victim?

It almost seems perfect.

'The Icon' Sting makes his triumphant return to WWE after being out of the public eye for quite some time and is then suddenly ambushed by The Fiend. The man who was once considered WCW's final hold out is then seen being choked out by the mandible claw as lights flicker on and off. The nightmarish Fiend then gives his signature laugh and a worldwide television audience is left stunned.

Sure, it's not an ideal situation for Sting fans, especially considering his rocky booking record with WWE, but few can deny the impact this type of moment could have on The Fiend's future. In fact, it could honestly go down as one of the defining segments of the character's career and firmly establish him as the new face of fear.

Again, it comes at the expense of a performer that hasn't been booked very well in the past, but if Sting is still unable to compete due to career-threatening injuries, what's the harm? In all seriousness, The Fiend needs to build up his body count and there are few bigger heads to hang on his mantle than Sting's.

#2. Get disrespected by Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn could get a lot of heat for confronting Sting.
Sami Zayn could get a lot of heat for confronting Sting.

Sami Zayn has made a habit out of calling out WWE legends for stealing spots from younger Superstars, which is exactly why he should confront Sting on the premiere episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Of course, the moment would probably pale in comparison to what WWE did with The Undertaker and Zayn earlier in the year, but it would still be fun to watch play out.

Nothing would be more interesting than watching Sting cut an impassioned promo only to suddenly be interrupted by Sami Zayn. The former NXT Champion can then do his slimy little walk down to the ring, cut an offensive promo on 'The Icon' that leaves the fans in shock, and get his ass handed to him moments later.

In the end, it may not change the course of SmackDown Live history and it might just end up being a one-off segment that is never built upon, but it would follow the reoccurring theme. Furthermore, it would be a great way to utilize a WWE Legend with limited ability in the ring and still make it fun for fans to watch.

Maybe it's even the start of something big for Sami Zayn and his artist, Shinsuke Nakamura, who are both in need of the spotlight right now.

#1. Dream encounter with The Undertaker

Will Sting and The Undertaker finally have their dream encounter?
Will Sting and The Undertaker finally have their dream encounter?

As awesome as it would be to see Sting confronted by The Fiend on the premiere episode of Friday Night SmackDown, nothing could compare to having a dream encounter with The Undertaker. With that stated, and both The Undertaker and Sting still very much involved with the company, why not go all out?

Of course, neither of these men are able to go like they could in their glory days and an actual match for Sting would probably be out of the question, but just to have these two stand in the same ring would be mesmerizing. How would it play out? Would there be mutual respect or would they turn on each other? Lastly, who would come out on top, if they did come to blows?

All of these important questions deserve answers and that is exactly what WWE can deliver by allowing these two to have their long-awaited showdown on Friday Night SmackDown. Not only would it likely go down as one of the most iconic moments of this current era, but it would also go a long way in catering to die-hard pro wrestling fans.
