5 Things WWE main roster should learn from NXT

The pro-wrestling industry is on fire recently with the rise of All Elite Wrestling, which many are considering to be WWE's toughest competitor in the last several years. Their first event Double or Nothing in many ways set some high standards for WWE to follow with RAW and SmackDown the next week, and they failed miserably at it.

But one thing that tonight's NXT TakeOver XXV told us was that whether the main roster can cope-up to AEW's standards or not, but NXT definitely can. Whether NXT TakeOver XXV was better than AEW DoN or not is a matter of personal opinions, but it did a way better job at making a statement.

It is, at times, highly confusing as to how the same company can have such a huge difference in their two different products. On the one hand, the main roster faces continuous criticism from fans and critics, on the other, the same fans and critics can't stop praising the NXT brand.

In this article, let's take a look at the 5 things that the main roster should learn from the so-called developmental brand, NXT. Feel free to let me know in the comments section if there's anything that you think I missed and should be added here.

#5 How to build new superstars

NXT knows how to make new stars!
NXT knows how to make new stars!

One major criticism that the main roster faces is its overdependence on past stars and part-timers rather than showing faith on the next generation of superstars. The most recent example of that was Brock Lesnar becoming Mr. Money in the Bank 2019 in a match that involved many stars of the future.

NXT, on the other hand, is known to continuously build newer superstars and replace the existing ones with them. Ever since the emergence of the brand, it has given the world of pro-wrestling some of its biggest stars currently.

Superstars like Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and many more were once carrying the NXT brand on their shoulders. But even after all of them leaving, NXT has managed to build new top stars continuously and keep the product's quality intact.

Vince should take an in-depth look at the functioning of the NXT system and try to apply that to the main roster as well.

#4 Booking of the Tag Teams

Do you even remember when was the last time we saw the RAW Tag Team Champions on the show? The booking of tag teams on the main roster has been extremely disappointing. Compare it to the one in NXT, where the tag team division is given proper focus and attention.

It is so sad to see teams like The Ascension, Sanity, and many others, who once ruled the division in NXT, being buried on the main roster. Vince McMahon needs to learn how important the Tag Team division is for a show.

#3 The freedom of the commentators

Commentators are one of the most integral yet often easily overlooked part of a wrestling show. The intensity and interest of calling the in-ring action play a huge role in the success of any match.

Is there any comparison between the commentary quality of the main roster and NXT? On one hand, we have Michael Cole and his repetitive and dull commentary, and then we have Mauro Ronallo and his mic work that clearly shows how passionate the guy is.

One main reason for the not-so-impressive commentary on the main roster is Vince constantly being in the ears of Cole and team, while Triple H gives enough freedom to his commentators to be themselves.

#2 Lesser is always better

Quality over quantity!
Quality over quantity!

There's a famous saying that too much of anything ruins it. While we all love wrestling and catching up with new and exciting actions and storylines each week, going through the 3-hour long RAW is not an easy and pleasant task. NXT, on the other hand, is just one hour long and is easy to catch-up with.

If we talk about the PPVs, the TakeOvers hardly cross the 3-hour mark, but the main roster PPVs easily go up to 5 hours. WrestleMania this year was longer than 7 hours and the crowd was visibly dead by the time the main event concluded. There needs to be a limit to the length of these shows.

#1 Focus on in-ring action at TakeOvers

The biggest reason why NXT TakeOvers are such huge success is the in-ring action that we get to witness on these events. Each match tries to surpass the one before it, and hardly any match disappoints. The main event does feel like the best match on the show and delivers every time.

The main roster PPVs sometimes have a tendency to focus more on the entertainment part more than the in-ring action. Also, the matches on TakeOvers get sufficient time for the two wrestlers involved to tell a story between the ring, while that is not the case with the PPVs and shows on the main roster.

A pro-wrestling show's priority should be to focus on the in-ring action as much as anything else.
