Could WWE do more cinematic matches with the pandemic going on?

WWE is in a very interesting spot right now and although the company continues to push forward in the best way possible, one would have to hope they have some kind of long term plan. Of course, WWE has already shown hints of that bigger plan with impromptu title matches and moving certain storylines forward, but one has to wonder if it's enough.

One also has to consider how WWE can keep going given all the limitations they are faced with at the moment. In fact, even when the company seems to do everything right, they still suffer from the fact that there is no live audience in attendance and there is no way to inject the needed excitement into the product.

With WWE currently refusing to take time off, here are five ways the company can keep fans interested during the pandemic. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us what you think WWE should do moving forward.

#5 Break the fourth wall

WWE should be focusing on breaking the fourth wall more.

For one reason or another, the WWE Universe loves it whenever the company manages to break the fourth wall. Whether that be by Bray Wyatt's infamous see you in hell promo right before Hell in a Cell, or Randy Orton calling Edge by his real name, there is something about going off-script that seems to resonate with fans.

Again, this seems to be a 'get out of jail' free card for the company and they need to find a way to utilize it over these next couple of weeks. At least that way, WWE can keep fans on their toes as they ride out the quarantine and could even get fans buzzing in a way that they haven't been for a while.

And that's what WWE needs. They need people to talk positively about the company again. They need people to get excited about the product again. Finally, they need to break the fourth wall in a way that keeps fans coming back and also keeps them guessing as to what happens next.

#4 Title matches

There's nothing like a title match on free television to create an air of excitement among the WWE Universe and the company might want to look into doing it more often. This allows the company to create must-see content for fans and moves crucial storylines forward in the process as well.

While WWE might be limited in what they can do storyline-wise, they need to find ways to get creative and continue to move them forward. Whether that be by a title match, a cold-blooded betrayal, to move storylines forward needs to be the overall goal in the coming weeks.

Title matches would probably be the best way to achieve that goal and would really be a welcomed sight for fans. It would also really help to eliminate some of the disadvantages that the company is facing right now and get everyone focused on the ever-changing title picture of each division.

#3 Make Bray Wyatt the focus

Braun Strowman versus Bray Wyatt. Who wins?

WWE made an interesting move by putting Bray Wyatt back into the title picture on Friday Night SmackDown and it seems like this is the company's way of saying that they want to put the title on The Fiend. Either that, or they want to at least tease the idea of The Fiend winning the title back and offer it up as a red haring for something later.

Whatever the company chooses, it is always absolute magic when Bray Wyatt is on the screen. A majority of the WWE Universe in love with the character; it makes perfect sense for the company to capitalize on this. It could even be what helps them through this tough time.

In the end, WWE needs someone to bank on through this rough patch and The Fiend is exactly that person. Of course, some are going to say that Braun Strowman then gets cheated out of his championship, but he already had his WrestleMania moment and with the way the company books The Fiend, there is no way Strowman looks weak in defeat.

#2 Cliff hangers

What happened to WWE's use of cliff hangers?

No, seriously, what happened to WWE making fans want to watch next week's episode by doing something jaw-dropping in the closing moments of the show? While some might see this kind of storytelling impossible due to the pandemic and absence of a live crowd, the company still has a variety of options that helps them out of this hole.

Remember when Roman Reigns was attacked backstage during the closing moments of a Friday Night SmackDown episode and fans went nuts? The internet was literally debating all week on who could have been the one to try to hurt Reigns and what would happen next.

WWE needs to employ that kind of storyline again and give fans some kind of who-did-it mystery to follow. At least that way, fans will keep tuning in throughout the ongoing crisis, get vital questions answered every week and ultimately, be thoroughly entertained in the process.

#1 More cinematic matches

WWE should embrace the idea of more cinematic matches.
WWE should embrace the idea of more cinematic matches.

It's no secret that the cinematic matches were the talk of the town during the two-night WrestleMania extravaganza. While the matches garnered mixed opinions, it seemed to resonate with a lot of people. Furthermore, it got people talking in a way that they weren't previously and opens the door to more of the same in the future.

In all honesty, WWE has tried cinematic matches countless times with various results and had somewhat given up on them for a while. Fortunately for the company, all that might have changed after the Firefly Fun House match and the Boneyard match, which could open the door to this becoming more of the norm in the future.

In the end, WWE needs to fill time during these next couple weeks as the pandemic continues and cinematic matches might be the best way to do that. Not only does it allow WWE to move the story forward and keep fans on the edge of their seats, but it also can very entertaining and fun to follow.
