5 Top WWE Superstars who The Undertaker may never face before he retires

It's 2020 and The Undertaker is in the most interesting position of his career in nearly a decade. While he's constantly made his presence felt with his part-time appearances, there's no denying that his age along with pre-existing injuries has been detrimental to his matches and overall legacy.

For three years, we wondered why The Undertaker decided to return after supposedly retiring at WrestleMania 33, then he revealed on The Last Ride in 2020 that it was due to his dissatisfaction with that match. He's had quite a few matches since then, but it was his change in character and the cinematic 'Boneyard' match against AJ Styles that finally helped generate a lot of excitement about his future.

We're not sure about what The Undertaker's endgame is or when he plans to call it quits, but given how he's recovered physically post his hip surgery, it's not out of the realm of possibility to see him compete for a few more years with The Deadman gimmick behind him.

We expect to see a few dream matches fulfilled, but some may pass him by. Here are a few opponents The Undertaker may never face before he retires:

#5. Seth Rollins

Does this feud need to happen?
Does this feud need to happen?

We'll start with Seth Rollins for the simple reason that we feel this is the least exciting match-up on the list. Seth Rollins has been and remains the pillar of Monday Night RAW and has held the responsibility of being the face of the brand for a while now.

For some reason, Rollins and The Undertaker don't seem like they would have a very exciting feud. While his new gimmick could make the promo exchanges more interesting, we're not too sure there's a good reason to book this rivalry.

The two are likely better off on their own paths and while we're sure that Seth Rollins would love to face a Superstar he watched growing up, it likely wouldn't cause any fireworks.

#4. Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre is a Superstar on this list who we feel has the highest chance of getting The Undertaker match. While we're not sure what the plans are for him as the WWE Champion and if the intention is to establish him as the long-term face of RAW, we could see a scenario where the "redeemed' Undertaker returns for a match against the Scotsman.

It would be better if the WWE Championship was on the line. While we don't think The Undertaker needs to be in the World title picture, it would be good to see him have a last shot at the gold, hopefully putting over a Superstar of McIntyre's caliber.

Moreover, it would help McIntyre's legacy greatly. The Undertaker wouldn't hurt from a loss to the WWE Champion and even in defeat, a good match would only raise his stock. There was a time in 2019 when he teamed up with Roman Reigns to face Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre and that turned out to be his best match in years up to that point.

There was a tease of The Undertaker vs McIntyre, but given how much plans change in WWE, it's highly likely that the match may never happen.

#3. Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman would have been a great opponent for The Undertaker in 2017 or 2018. Strowman was so hot in 2017 and 2018 that he could have easily defeated The Undertaker and fans wouldn't have been as mad about it.

However, we all know what the story of Strowman's career has been before WrestleMania 36. It was one of a man (or in this case, a monster) who came close to the top of the mountain on many occasions, only to fall short. While in the storyline, it could be attributed to Strowman not performing under the bright lights, the reality is that it was WWE officials who preferred other Superstars to him and used him as a tool to elevate others.

By sheer circumstance, Strowman went from having no match at WrestleMania 36 to defeating Goldberg and finally capturing the Universal Championship. The Undertaker isn't necessarily brand-restricted, so the match is still possible.

But at this point, WWE doesn't have much of an incentive to book the feud.

#2. Daniel Bryan

We're surprised to see that this match never came about between 2011-2014 at any point. While the two did have a brief alliance when Daniel Bryan was with Kane as a part of Team Hell No, the two veterans never had a Singles match against one another.

Then again, the two have been babyfaces for the entire time, with Daniel Bryan only having a heel run in 2011-12 and for 10 months from late 2018-2019. There wasn't anything that specifically warranted a match between the two, but had Bryan stayed healthy between 2014-15, it wouldn't be hard to imagine a blockbuster Big 4 PPV match between the two.

With The Undertaker's change in character, we could see a feud with great promos between the two and a great match, since Daniel Bryan would be doing most of the heavy lifting. However, the two have always been on different paths and it doesn't seem like there's much of a reason for WWE to book a match between the two now.

#1. Aleister Black

Aleister Black is on the rise

Aleister Black is a Superstar who has been benefiting big from his move to Monday Night RAW in 2019. Right off the bat, it was clear that he was a "Paul Heyman guy" backstage and started receiving a steady and consistent push that continues even today.

He's being positioned as one of the future top stars of the RAW brand and he has all the tools to make it big. While World Championship success still maybe a year or two away for The Dutch Destroyer, there are a lot of interesting possibilities for him with many Superstars.

He would make for one of the most exciting "new" opponents for The Undertaker and they would match-up well stylistically as well, as both Superstars are heavy on their striking game inside the ring.

One of the biggest things that could prevent this match from happening is how often The Undertaker appears. Given that his Saudi Arabia matches are normally against nostalgic opponents or Superstars who are set up to lose (like Rusev), WWE will have to go out of their way to book a match between Black and The Undertaker. One could argue that if Black continues on the track he's going, they could have an exciting clash at WrestleMania 37 next year.

However, it looks like it'll be a dream match that never happens.
