5 WWE veterans who can still win the World Championship

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, WWE has been continuously putting out a great product for its fans all around the world. While it has seen its fair share of downs, there have been plenty of positives as well. The product seems to be heading towards a brighter future with Drew McIntyre as the face of the company.

However, one of the most exciting angles currently involves the rise of WWE's Apex Predator. Randy Orton has been nothing but impressive ever since he started feuding with Edge earlier this year. Edge, who made his return to professional wrestling after nine years, too looked in great shape during the Royal Rumble and his subsequent matches against Randy Orton.

Neither Edge nor Orton are in their primes right now. However, that has never stopped WWE from crowning veterans or part-timers as World Champions. The most recent example to support the above statement are Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, both of whom lost their titles at WrestleMania 36.

While it is a different topic altogether whether these veterans or part-timers should win the coveted championship, it will still be an interesting scenario to see if any of these veterans could relive their glory days.

Here are five veterans who may win the world championship in the foreseeable future.

5. John Morrison

John Morrison made his return to WWE almost 8 years after his release in 2011.

John Morrison has a story very similar to the current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Both McIntyre and Morrison had a lot of potential as singles Superstars but were underutilized. They both made their names in the independent circuit and were signed back by WWE. Just like McIntyre, Morrison found success as a tag team upon his arrival on the main roster.

The Scottish Psychopath eventually found his way to the top, and Morrison is likely hoping for the same. Even at the age of 40, Morrison hasn't lost a step and is one of the most exciting performers on the main roster. While the team of Miz and Morrison has been amazing so far, it will only be in the welfare of both individuals if they eventually part ways.

The Shaman of Sexy is currently on the Blue brand, and the journey to the top might not be an easy one as it boasts some big names such as Bray Wyatt and AJ Styles.

4. The Rock

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is arguably the most famous WWE Superstars of all time, even though he isn't famous just for wrestling. Despite not competing as a full-time wrestler since 2004, the Rock still manages to get a reaction that only a few can. Despite his age, the Rock is still in incredible shape and is capable of putting on a quality match.

Thus, his last match at WrestleMania 32 came as a surprise to many when he defeated Eric Rowan in a mere six seconds. The Rock then announced his retirement in 2019. However, it is highly unlikely that a Superstar such as The Rock would go out in such an anti-climatic way.

The Rock still could be a part of many exciting feuds in WWE, most notably with Roman Reigns. Even Reigns has not shied away from speaking on this topic.

Hence, it is very likely that the Rock will return to the squared circle once again and possibly win the World Championship along the way.

3. Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan has already won the World Championship after his return from retirement.

Daniel Bryan's journey in the WWE has been nothing short of a roller coaster. This ride came to an abrupt stoppage in 2016 when he had to retire due to multiple concussions suffered over the years. However, the American Dragon stuck to his words and made his much-awaited return as a competitor in 2018.

In less than two years into his return, Bryan captured the WWE Championship after defeating AJ Styles. During this phase, Bryan evolved as a wrestler as he turned heel for the first time in almost seven years. He would go on to defend his title against Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35. After losing the championship to Kingston at WrestleMania 35, Bryan has struggled to win the title back, falling short on multiple occasions. Bryan has also been absent on WWE television lately.

Bryan is perhaps still the most notable face on the blue brand and likely to challenge for the World Championship once he returns.

2. Randy Orton

Randy Orton is arguably the hottest thing going in WWE right now. It is almost impossible to deny that when motivated, Orton is one of the best wrestlers in the history of the genre. However, the only catch here is the motivation that drives Orton. Orton has often faced criticism for being boring, by fans and critics alike.

However, that hardly seems to be the case right now. With the return of his Legend Killer gimmick, Orton seems more vicious and focused than ever. There have been countless rumors of Orton challenging for the WWE Championship at Summerslam.

If the rumors are correct, then the Viper may very well be on the path to capture his record 14th WWE World Championship. As per the current scenario, there appears to be no heel better established than Orton to dethrone Drew McIntyre as the Champion. Having Orton win the WWE Championship would open the doors to many intriguing storylines as there are many faces on RAW who could benefit from an angle with the Apex Predator.

1. John Cena

John Cena hasn't been seen in WWE ever since his loss to Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 36.

It will be unfair to mention record WWE World Championship reigns and not bring up John Cena or Ric Flair. However, unlike the latter, Cena has a solid chance to be the undisputed holder of this particular record. The Leader of Cenation tied Flair's record of 16 World Championship reigns at Royal Rumble 2017. However, ever since, Cena has come short in his pursuit to break Flair's record.

In the latter phase of his career, Cena has put over many young talents such as Finn Balor, Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt. It was only his absence that made fans appreciate the work Cena has done for more than 17 years. It will be fitting to have him break Flair's record that has eluded him since losing the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber 2017.

Thus, it should not come as a surprise if we see the Doctor of Thuganomics lift the coveted championship once again.
