The biggest on-screen WWE storyline right now involves Roman Reigns, who got his revenge on Daniel Bryan on this week’s SmackDown Live by hitting him with a spear at the end of the episode.

Off-screen, meanwhile, it has been another week of newsworthy moments behind-the-scenes, with various Superstars revealing interesting stories about their characters and the real-life trials and tribulations of working for the biggest sports entertainment company in the world.

One of the most amusing stories of the week emerged on Thursday when a Raw Superstar revealed that, before proposing to his girlfriend earlier this year, he hid the ring in a toy Undertaker casket throughout the day, and he later told “The Deadman” the full story.

To find out all the details behind that story, plus four other backstage anecdotes, let’s count down five revelations that have been made over the last seven days.

#5 How Shinsuke Nakamura helped Karl Anderson

Shinsuke Nakamura recently teased a possible alliance with AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson by posing in a picture with all three members of The OC on social media.

SmackDown Live’s Nakamura is unlikely to join forces with the trio on Raw, especially as he now has Sami Zayn as his advocate on the blue brand, but it would have been interesting to see the on-screen relationship between the four men after hearing what Anderson had to say on this week’s Chasing Glory.

The former Raw Tag Team Champion said on Lilian Garcia’s podcast that he was inspired to become a wrestler after watching The Rock, Triple H, Chyna and Tony Atlas on an MTV documentary in the late 1990s.

After spending six years on the independent scene, he was spotted by NJPW and flew to Japan to begin working for the promotion. The problem, however, was that Anderson only had $14 when he got to the country.

Nakamura found this out and asked Anderson to prove it by showing him his bank account. “The King of Strong Style” realised that NJPW’s new recruit was telling the truth, so he bought him food every day for six months until he made some money.

#4 Sasha Banks did cry on the locker room floor

Lots of wild reports emerged after WrestleMania 35 about Sasha Banks after she lost the Women’s Tag Team titles at the event and took an unexpected leave of absence.

One of the most talked-about reports came from Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin, who claimed that Banks and Bayley were laying on the locker room floor at WrestleMania and loudly complained outside a hotel room about WWE’s decision to have them lose the tag titles.

Wrestling Twitter being Wrestling Twitter, many people have mocked the report over the last few months and questioned whether Banks would really react in that way.

Now, following a promo from “The Boss” on the latest episode of Raw, we know that she did indeed cause a scene at WrestleMania and Satin’s information was accurate.

“All I hear is Sasha Banks, Sasha Banks, Sasha Banks, Sasha Banks… Sasha Banks. How Sasha Banks threw a fit… I did. How Sasha Banks was seen crying at WrestleMania on the locker room floor… I did. How Sasha Banks took her ball and went home… you’re damn right I did.”

#3 Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson stopped riding with AJ Styles

Before Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson reunited with AJ Styles to become the top heel faction on Raw, it was widely reported that the two men were set to miss several months of television before leaving WWE when their contracts expired later in 2019.

Then, much to the surprise of the WWE Universe, The Club signed new long-term deals with the company and won the Raw Tag Team titles for the second time in their careers.

In another story from Lilian Garcia’s Chasing Glory podcast, Gallows and Anderson mentioned that they were “miserable every day” when they were not being used on television between 2017-2019, with Anderson admitting that his WWE situation even impacted his home life.

Both men were determined to get their careers back on track and often spoke to each other about what their next step would be after their contracts came to an end.

They also revealed that they complained so much about their position in WWE that they even stopped AJ Styles from riding with them after shows, simply because they did not want to bring him down.

#2 The original WrestleMania 2000 main event

The majority of WWE viewers have the opinion that the Attitude Era was the best era to be a wrestling fan, but it is safe to say that one of the biggest events during that time – WrestleMania 2000 – did not live up to expectations.

The nine-match card was full of multi-person encounters, with a catfight between Terri Runnels and The Kat being the only singles match, and the show ended with Triple H retaining his WWE Championship against The Rock, Mick Foley and The Big Show in a ‘McMahon In Every Corner’ Fatal 4-Way match.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy in the build-up to NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, Triple H revealed that he was originally due to face The Rock in an Ironman match at WrestleMania 2000.

However, Foley and Big Show were added to the match, which meant the Ironman stipulation was saved for the next month’s pay-per-view, Judgment Day, where HHH defeated The Rock in a 60-minute encounter following interference in the final minute from the returning Undertaker.

#1 Zack Ryder’s conversation with The Undertaker

Zack Ryder took part in one of the most memorable matches of his WWE career in April 2019 when he teamed with Curt Hawkins to defeat The Revival for the Raw Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 35.

On the same weekend as WWE’s biggest show of the year, the former Intercontinental Champion proposed to his girlfriend, NXT Superstar Chelsea Green.

Speaking on the Notsam Wrestling podcast this week, Ryder said he hid the ring throughout the day of the proposal in a small Undertaker casket which came from a WrestleMania XV Grapple Gear playset.

When Ryder recalled the story to The Miz at WrestleMania Axxess, his former on-screen rival told him he should also tell The Undertaker.

Ryder said he did not want to discuss his love of collecting wrestling figures early on in his career, as the majority of his fellow Superstars at the time did not grow up collecting figures, but he now feels comfortable embracing his hobby.

“He [The Undertaker] was laughing about it. I would never have told him that story ten years ago but now I can go up to him and be like, ‘What up, Dead?’ and I can talk to him and everyone’s cool about it.”
