5 WWE Superstars who deserve to dethrone Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship

Brock Lesnar prepares to go inside the steel cage at the Greatest Royal Rumble

As of May 15, 2018, Brock Lesnar has held the WWE Championship for 408 days. That's nearly 10,000 hours, over half a million minutes, and over 35 million seconds.

Lesnar is fast approaching the modern-day World Championship Reign within the WWE held by CM Punk, who held the WWE Championship for 434 days from November 2011 to January 2013.

Many within the WWE Universe have soured on Lesnar's reign compared to CM Punk's because of the fact that Lesnar is a part-time wrestler who has barely defended the WWE Universal Championship when compared to Punk. Take a look at that comparison below:

The comparison of title defenses between CM Punk and Brock Lesnar

Lesnar last defended the WWE Universal Championship on April 27th at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Though replay showed Roman Reigns won the steel cage match by the defined rules, referee Chad Patton made a mistake in naming Lesnar the winner of the match.

With WWE Money In The Bank being the earliest that Brock Lesnar will probably defend the WWE Universal Championship, it seems very likely that he will pass CM Punk for the longest modern World Championship reign in the WWE.

This article is going to look at five WWE Superstars who deserve to take the Championship off Lesnar. Considering Lesnar has held the title for so long, it will be a major moment for the WWE Superstar who does conquer The Beast.

Let's start this list with someone that should be the WWE Universal Champion right now.

#5 - Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns calls himself the uncrowned WWE Universal Champion, for good reason...

I know... I know. This will not be the popular pick among the masses who love to boo Roman Reigns, but there are several reasons why he should take the Championship from Brock Lesnar.

Not only is Roman the leader of the locker room, he has worked hard to continuously improve in the ring. Roman has been involved in several great matches, but since he's not optimally booked, many fans decide to boo him.

Roman's dedication and respect for the WWE coupled with his ability makes him an easy choice to dethrone Lesnar.

#4 - Finn Balor

Finn Balor had the distinguished honor of being the first WWE Universal Champion

As most people know, Finn Balor is the first WWE Universal Champion in history but, had to relinquish it one day later due to injury.

Many people believed the Finn Balor never did get his true one-on-one match for the WWE Universal Championship with Brock Lesnar because of the size difference.

After seeing AJ Styles give Lesnar a great match at the 2017 WWE Survivor Series, I know that Balor can have a match of the same quality. If anyone deserves to take the championship off of Lesnar, it is the man who first held that title.

#3 - Drew McIntyre

The reinvention
The reinvention of Drew McIntyre has been amazing, so has the pairing with Dolph Ziggler

This is the most radical suggestion of the five, but if you've been watching Drew McIntyre ever since he debuted at Impact Wrestling in 2015, up to his NXT Championship reign in 2017, you know that he is the real deal.

Drew was just re-introduced to the main roster during the Superstar Shakeup that took place just after WrestleMania. He's aligned himself with Dolph Ziggler and they have dominated the competition ever since.

McIntyre has reinvented himself to be the main event player he was originally sought out to be, and defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship would catapult him to one of the top stars in the company immediately.

#2 - Braun Strowman

Is Brau
Is Braun Strowman the Stone Cold Steve Austin of this generation?

It's hard to find a WWE Superstar over the past 10 years with such an organic rise in popularity than Braun Strowman.

Though Strowman had a one-on-one match with Brock Lesnar at No Mercy last September, we all knew Lesnar was winning with the plans of facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

We're now approaching a year since that one-on-one match happened, and Braun is only getting better inside and out of the ring.

The WWE Universe definitely would love to see Braun as the WWE Universal Champion, and someday it will happen. It would mean even more if he is the one to take the title off of Brock.

#1 - Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is having a great year as WWE Intercontinental Champion

There is nobody having a better 2018 in the WWE than Seth Rollins. I would say the run of great matches that Rollins has had, started with the gauntlet match on a February edition of Raw, where he defeated John Cena and Roman Reigns in spectacular matches.

Since then he's gone on to have classic matches against Finn Balor and The Miz.

Rollins tops the list because his stock is so high right now, and he's continuing to add to the prestige of the WWE Intercontinental Championship to this day.

We all remember when Rollins cashed in the Money In The Bank contract at WrestleMania 31 to defeat Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.

More than three years later, we would love to see him defeat Lesnar in a one-on-one match to win the WWE Universal Championship for the first time.
