Like any competitive sport, the goal of professional wrestlers is to be the best.

Often, this is accomplished by winning matches, with names such as Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Bret Hart and John Cena all having huge victories in their very illustrious careers.

When a new Superstars joins the WWE, they will no doubt be hoping to win more than they lose, and put on a good show each and every week.

But sometimes, a Superstar will pick up a huge win even though all logic says they shouldn't have done so.

Whether it be due to ego, Creative control or just bad writing, there have been plenty of instances when the wrong star went 'over', severely damaging the reputation of their fallen opponent.

Here are five WWE Superstars who should've lost huge matches, but for whatever reason, didn't:

#5 Mysterio stops the ShowOff

When you think of huge egos in the world of WWE, Rey Mysterio doesn't exactly spring to mind.

But in 2009, Mysterio showed his influence over the product, at the expense of Dolph Ziggler.

After recapturing the Intercontinental Championship from Chris Jericho, the master of the 619 was asked to lose the title to a young Ziggler.

As he had been promised a longer reign, Mysterio refused, as such a quick loss would've hurt his credibility, as well as the title, which had become one of the highlights in 2009 thanks to Mysterio and Jericho.

Instead, Mysterio defeated the young ShowOff to retain the title at that year's Summerslam event, as Ziggler would have to wait until the summer of 2010 until he finally won his first of six Intercontinental Championship titles.

#4 Triple H wins the Monday Night War, in 2015

There have been fewer shocks in recent history greater than when Sting made his WWE debut at Survivor Series 2014, at the expense of The Authority.

Starting a feud with Triple H, the conflict seemed to revolve around the Monday Night Wars, a confusing idea when you consider that the war had ended over a decade ago in 2001.

Despite this, their match at Mania 31, Sting's WWE in-ring debut, was sure to be a great match, as many expected the babyface Icon to shut the mouth of The Game.

That's not what happened.

Instead, the King of Kings went over, thanks to an assist by his DX comrades, and though Sting and Triple H would shake hands after, many fans were left reeling from this bad booking decision.

#3 Cena fells the Eater of Worlds at WrestleMania

As WWE approached WrestleMania 30 in 2014, one huge topic of conversation was Bray Wyatt.

After debuting at Summerslam 2013, Wyatt was set to compete at his very first Mania, and his target: John Cena.

In the weeks running up to the show, The Eater of Worlds vowed to defeat Cena, who at all times attempted to rise above hate.

It was an exciting match, but the overall tone was let down slightly when Cena defeated Wyatt, in what many thought was the wrong call.

A Wyatt win would've definitely elevated the new star, and after so many historic Mania wins, it wasn't like Cena needed it.

Though Wyatt would get his win back in a cage match at the next pay per view, it was clear that his ship had sailed.

#2: Chyna walks away as Champion

At WrestleMania X-Seven, Chyna won the WWF Women's Championship in impressive fashion: crushing former Champion Ivory of the Right To Censor.

After competing in the men's division for so long, Chyna reportedly only agreed to join the women's division if she won the title immediately, which she did.

Fast forward to a few months down the line, and Chyna was scheduled to lose the title to Lita, something that the Ninth Wonder of the World flat-out refused to do.

Despite this stance, the pair would still be booked into a title match at Judgement Day 2001, where Chyna retained the gold.

Though Chyna would win the match, it would be her final appearance in the WWF, and the title was brought back with no reference to the recently-inducted Hall of Famer, at Survivor Series 2001.

#1 Triple H reigns over RAW

Many believe it would have made more sense for Booker to have won in 2003.

When Triple H regained the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon 2002, few could've predicted how long his title reign would be.

Ruling over RAW with the help of Evolution, The Game dominated everyone, but there were plenty of opportunities for the title to change hands.

Look at his match against Booker T at WrestleMania 19. A feud that made reference to Booker's criminal past, and also implied racial tensions between the pair, having the former WCW star win would've been a feel-good moment.

Instead, The Game pedigreed The Bookman, and pinned him nearly a minute after.

A huge loss, it would take Booker a King of the Ring win, several heel and face turns, and a whopping three years before he won the very same title in 2006 that many felt should've been his in 2003.
