5 WWE tag teams that could re-form in 2020

WWE's tag team division hasn't been given the priority it deserves, as tag team wrestling isn't featured prominently and is usually always in the mid-card. This has resulted in a few unhappy Superstars backstage, two of whom - The Revival, left the company recently.

WWE has tried to change things around by adding big-name stars to tag team feuds, like Seth Rollins on RAW, while the SmackDown tag team division has always looked very strong. The women's tag team division has looked rather thin lately and we could see a few changes down there as well.

The promotion could bring back some excitement to the tag team division by re-forming old tag teams.

Here, we take a look at five WWE tag teams that could re-form in 2020:

#5 The Bar

Let's get the least likely of re-formings out of the way first. The Bar, the team of Sheamus and Cesaro, who were a significant part of the tag team division of both RAW and SmackDown between 2016 and 2019, split up last year.

The duo won five tag team titles in total (4 RAW and 1 SmackDown), and put on some fantastic matches. But, they split up as both Superstars wanted a singles run. Sheamus revealed in an interview last year about his desire to win the Intercontinental title.

Here's what Sheamus had to say about The Bar's disbanding and opened the door towards a potential reunion in the future:

"Well me and Cesaro have achieved everything there is to do, we’re five-time tag champs. I think The Bar is something where we have cemented our legacies as The Bar, like we can always go back to that and anything we do will be massive, but we’re both on a bit of a singles journey at the moment and there’s still a lot I want to achieve as a singles guy. Obviously the Intercontinental title is the one I still haven’t won, so that’s all I really care about right now." (H/T Cultaholic)

If the duo run out of opportunities in singles competition, perhaps we could see them re-form later in the year and have a brief run to spice up things on RAW or SmackDown.

#4 The Riott Squad

The Riott Squad - the trio of Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, and Liv Morgan, were called up to the main roster in 2017 and were brought in as heels. They debuted on the same week as Absolution, the team led by Paige and featuring Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose, debuted on RAW.

The two teams were expected to run riot on the women's division on both RAW and SmackDown, but both those factions are no longer in existence. There may be no possibility of Deville and Rose joining forces once again anytime soon after the two began a feud recently.

But, The Riott Squad could re-form in the future after the faction was disbanded last year. Liv Morgan had a change of character and was added to the Lana-Rusev-Bobby Lashley love triangle, but that fell flat quickly.

The women's tag team division needs new teams to make things interesting and add a bit of competition. A ruthless faction like The Riott Squad could shake things up and would be a good addition to a future feud with the Women's Tag Team champions.

#3 Beth Phoenix and Natalya

The Divas of Doom, the tag team of WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix and Natalya, re-formed last year after a long time as Phoenix had retired from in-ring competition. Phoenix returned to in-ring action at the 2018 Women's Royal Rumble match.

Last year, she joined hands with Natalya once again, as the duo were involved in the fatal 4-way tag team match for the Women's Tag Team titles at WrestleMania 35. Natalya and Beth could not win the titles as The IIconics got the win, capturing the titles for the first time.

Phoenix recently tweeted to her tag team partner about doing it again, which is a big hint that they could re-form to have another go at the Women's Tag Team titles.

The duo could maybe team up later this year to compete in a tag team title match at a PPV like SummerSlam or Survivor Series.

Charlotte Flair, the current NXT Women's Champion, had recently challenged Phoenix to a match, and we could perhaps see that match at a big stage like WrestleMania.

#2 Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe

Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe formed a tag team to combat the faction led by Seth Rollins which also had Murphy and AOP. Joe was removed from the feud when he was given a 30-day suspension for a wellness policy violation, with The Street Profits taking Owens and Joe's place in the feud.

Joe's suspension ended last month but he has yet to return to WWE television, which perhaps hints at the creative team not having anything in store for him. WWE could possibly re-form the tag team of Owens and Joe, perhaps in view to set-up a bigger feud: Owens vs Joe.

Joe and Owens both work well as heels, as they can both run their mouth, be ruthless on the mic, as well as inflict a lot of damage when in the ring. Joe could perhaps turn heel somewhere down the line after the duo re-forms, and set-up a match for SummerSlam, or maybe Survivor Series. The two have feuded before on NXT but not on the main roster (albeit a brief feud on SmackDown last year)

#1 Tamina and Nia Jax

Nia Jax, the former RAW Women's Champion, made her return to the WWE on the RAW after WrestleMania 36. Jax had been out for a year due to knee surgery that she required after WrestleMania 35.

Before her surgeries, Jax was part of a tag team with Tamina, and the two were involved in the Women's Tag Team feud, where they were one of the four teams to take part in the fatal 4-way match at WrestleMania 35. They, unfortunately, could not win the title, as The IIconics won it.

Tamina, who was drafted to SmackDown last year, hasn't featured much on the Blue brand. She was in the SmackDown Women's Championship match at WrestleMania 36, where she was the first to be eliminated by the four other women in the ring.

Tamina and Jax could re-form their tag team, with one of them going to the other brand, and challenging current Women's Tag Team champions, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.
