WrestleMania 33 is over, and even though the result of the main event came as a disappointment to some fans, the overall show was one of the best ‘Mania’s we’ve got in recent memory. Even with a total run-time of 7 hours (including the pew-show) ‘Mania never felt like it was dragging along.
It’s safe to say that the WWE really went all out this year – from the extravagant set design to the booking of the show. Unlike last year, this year’s show never seemed to drag along.
Before we move on from WrestleMania, let’s check out some moments from the show that you may have missed.
6: New Day cracked a joke on Paige’s leaked videos and Xavier Woods being in them
We all know about the content of Paige’s private photos and videos, except for the fact that Xavier Woods was present in one of them.
When The New Day came out as the hosts of WrestleMania, they wasted no time in poking fun of Woods for a second with a comment that referenced the leaks instead of completely ignoring them. Big E referenced the leaks with the line “time to pull out our levers”.
5: DELETE
Matt and Jeff Hardy made a sensational comeback to WWE at WrestleMania 33. Even though rumours of the Hardy’s return had been doing the rounds for weeks, it still came as a shock. Fans will also have noticed that the Hardy’s did not show up under their ‘Broken’ gimmick thanks to legal issues with Impact Wrestling.
However, WWE did indirectly acknowledge it with Michael Cole commenting “Things are about to be broken” after the Hardy’s music hit. Apart from this and the fans chanting DELETE, Matt was also seen doing his DELETE gesture after he and Jeff won the titles.
4: The Gronk and the guard
For those who watched the pre-show, you were probably disappointed to see Mojo Rawley, off all people, win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal with a little help from his friend, New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski.
However, what fans may have missed is what happened at ringside after Jinder Mahal instigated ‘The Gronk’. As Gronkowski tried to get over the barricade to enter the ringside area, a female security guard tried to stop him in his tracks.
As Gronk climbed the barricade, the security guard ran over to him and tried to push him back over the barricade. It clearly looked like she hadn’t been informed of Gronkowski’s part in the finish of the Battle Royal.
3: Wenger OUT signs even at WrestleMania 33
The’ Wenger Out’ protests by Arsenal fans went all the way to WrestleMania 33. 4,300 miles away from North London, one Arsenal fan took his trusted ‘Wenger Out’ sign to WrestleMania 33 where it was seen on camera.
Arsenal fan protests have really picked up this season with a large portion of Arsenal fans calling for Wenger to leave. Although the protests picked up steam in recent weeks, no one expected a fan to show up at WrestleMania with a ‘Wenger Out’ sign.
2: Meaning behind Triple H’s entrance
Triple H’s WrestleMania entrance was once again spectacular, with ‘The Game’ coming out on a motorcycle with Stephanie on the pillion, as they were escorted by police officers on bikes.
In case you didn’t know, there’s a secret meaning behind Triple H’s entrance. The entrance was a tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, the metal legend who also performed two of Triple H’s entrance themes as well as that of Evolution.
1: Undertaker breaks kayfabe
WrestleMania 33 will probably be remembered down the ages for being The Undertaker’s last appearance. Undertaker ended up being beaten pretty convincingly on the night by Roman Reigns. After the match, Taker left his gloves, hat, jacket and trench coat inside the ring before leaving the ring.
What fans may have missed is Undertaker breaking character afterwards when he kissed his wife Michelle McCool before leaving the arena. Taker is famously guarded about his character and him breaking kayfabe on the grandest stage of them all was a big deal.
