7 Current WWE Superstars who have never turned heel

In the world of WWE and wrestling in general, a change in character is something that most Superstars go through. Wrestling isn't a conventional form of entertainment on TV.

In WWE, for example, the wheel keeps spinning and the company runs its shows 52 weeks in a year. When you have a program for three hours or even two hours every single week in a calendar year, not only is there a need to keep storylines refreshing, but the same applies to characters as well.

As a result, we're likely to see Superstars maintain the same character for many years. There are quite a few exceptions, of course, but for the vast majority - including top stars, a change in character from babyface to heel tends to result in a rather interesting change in scenario and storylines.

In this list, we're going to focus on the current WWE roster and name seven Superstars who have yet to turn heel in WWE.

#7. Mustafa Ali - From WWE 205 Live to RAW to SmackDown

Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali has been around WWE for the last four years, first participating in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic as a replacement participant. While he certainly didn't get far in the tournament, he was signed by WWE and 205 Live was the platform where he made his name, having great matches with the likes of [Buddy] Murphy and Cedric Alexander, among others.

He even made it to the WWE Cruiserweight Tournament finals at WrestleMania 34 in 2018, where he fell short to Alexander. While he hasn't seen Championship success in WWE, it's clear that he's a special Superstar.

Due to his Pakistani-Indian background, he revealed that in his early independent wrestling days, he once attempted a controversial and racist gimmick (which was forced to do) but once he realized how he felt about it, he vowed to never go down that route again.

Since then, his character in WWE has been a complete babyface and is all about inspiring people and giving them hope. He's been clear about the fact that he wants to change certain stereotypes and while a heel turn could be in the cards in the future, it won't have anything to do with his ethnic identity. Luckily for him, he's in WWE during a time where that would receive an incredible amount of backlash.

WWE seems to be invested in his babyface character as well.

#6. Apollo Crews - One of WWE's most underutilized stars

Apollo Crews is a WWE Superstar who has been under the radar for a good part of five years. It was only in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic where Paul Heyman reportedly pushed to get Apollo Crews on RAW.

Since then, he's been one of the best rising WWE stars on the roster and has been getting consistently pushed for the first time in his WWE career. It led to him winning his first Championship in WWE - the United States title.

One would have to wonder how things would have been different if the crowds were still around, but Apollo Crews is one of the Superstars who has benefited from the lack of live audiences.

Either way, since his WWE debut with NXT in SummerSlam 2015 weekend, he hasn't had a change in character. He's been aligned with different people, but he's remained a babyface throughout his time. Many feel he's a Superstar who could benefit from a heel turn and we wouldn't be surprised to see him go that direction down the road someday.

#5. Otis - An unexpected WWE breakout star

Otis is a name who many didn't expect to become an eventual winner of the WWE Money in the Bank briefcase. Yet, 2020 saw him gain incredible momentum and it seems as though his storyline with Mandy Rose benefited greatly from that.

His match against Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania 36 was incredible in its own right and we can only imagine how crazy the live crowd would have been had it taken place inside the Raymond James Stadium in Miami.

Either way, Otis has been a part of WWE for just over four years and he could be in a position to become a WWE World Champion. His wrestling experience is the least on this entire list and since his run with Tucker and Heavy Machinery in late 2016/early 2017, he's yet to turn heel.

Given the nature of his character, he seems to be more of a natural babyface - and it appears that Vince McMahon sees it that way as well.

#4. Cedric Alexander - The former WWE Cruiserweight

Cedric Alexander, just like Mustafa Ali, made his entry into WWE via the Cruiserweight Classic tournament in 2016. He caught the Full Sail University audience by storm and won their hearts, with fans chanting "Please sign Cedric" despite having lost to Kota Ibushi in the early stages of the tournament.

Triple H gave a nod of approval and since then, Cedric Alexander has been a WWE Superstar. He made his name on the 205 Live brand and even had a great run as WWE Cruiserweight Champion, putting on some of the best matches in WWE while being under the radar in terms of the limelight.

He's been a part of RAW for a while now, but he still hasn't been utilized to his full potential, with reports of Vince McMahon giving up on him after Paul Heyman initially pushed for him.

He's a Superstar who has never needed to turn heel, but that could change soon. There has been a general lack of character progression for Cedric Alexander in WWE outside of 205 Live.

#3. Ricochet - WWE's resident superhero

Ricochet has had a largely forgettable 2020 despite having a great start in 2019. He seems to be one of those cases where certain Superstars take time to get pushed and for WWE's resident superhero, it's going to take a lot of time and a lot of work.

With that said, it's clear that WWE recognized his talent right off the bat. Post-WrestleMania 35 last year, he was pushed to a prominent spot and even given a brief United States title reign before feuding with AJ Styles and facing him at SummerSlam 2019.

He was an exciting Superstar in NXT, an exciting Superstar in his run in the independent scene, an exciting Superstar in his first year on RAW, and his most exciting days are yet to come. His in-ring style and character warrant him to be a babyface and that's what he has been since signing with WWE - having remained a babyface throughout.

It's going to be interesting to see how his character continues to progress as he gets more screen time.

#2. Aleister Black - WWE's Dutch Destroyer

Aleister Black

Aleister Black isn't what you call a conventional WWE babyface. He isn't going to cater to the crowd, nor will he mention a city's name to get a cheap pop. He's simply an ominous, dark character who only marches to the beat of his own drum.

He has the potential to become a character who completely transcends the heel/face dynamic, but he's been assigned a babyface role since he has largely feuded with and defeated heels on the NXT and WWE RAW roster.

He was on SmackDown for a while, but his run proved unproductive and it was only since his move to RAW last year did WWE start to utilize him better. However, he's been an important member of each roster he's been on (except SmackDown) and has been a babyface throughout his time. We don't see that changing anytime soon.

However, it would be quite interesting to explore a much darker and more evil side of Aleister Black, once the time is right. It could do wonders for him and the people he's involved with.

#1. Rey Mysterio - The greatest luchador in WWE history

If you were to ask any WWE fan who the "biggest little man" or even who the greatest luchador in WWE history is, you're likely to get a unanimous singular answer - Rey Mysterio.

Rey Mysterio redefined what it meant to be a little man in the land of giants and his athleticism and personality mesmerized millions around the world. WWE knew exactly what value Rey Mysterio brought into their Latino market and his mask remains among the most popular pieces of merchandise in WWE history.

In his entire run in WWE spanning over 15 years combined, he has never been a heel and WWE has never had a reason to turn him heel either. He has always been a natural babyface and his size, in-ring style, and larger-than-life persona meant that WWE knew he was a lifelong babyface.

He's perhaps the only Superstar on this list who we can guarantee will never turn heel in WWE. His run may not last too long anyway.
