AEW Dynamite: 5 Biggest news stories - Undertaker's finisher featured, Hardcore main event (September 16, 2020)

AEW Dynamite concluded with a Parking Lot Fight this week
AEW Dynamite concluded with a Parking Lot Fight this week

From Jon Moxley and Lance Archer forming temporary alliances with other stars to a bloody main event, this week's edition of AEW Dynamite featured many contrasting moments.

Following last week's important show where Dynamite crossed one million viewers, AEW delivered an action-packed episode that focused less on entertainment in the first half this time around. The in-ring content was good as expected. The show progressed in a standard way and peaked in the main event last night.

How did NXT fare against AEW in terms of quality this week? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Here are the five biggest news stories from this week's episode of AEW Dynamite (September 16, 2020).

#5: Kip Sabian informed that "The Best Man" Miro's job is to throw a wild bachelor party before the wedding

It looks like Miro will be portraying a light-hearted version of himself going forward on AEW Dynamite. Miro can face a variety of interesting opponents on Tony Khan's brand, but as of this moment, "The Best Man" in AEW is otherwise engaged in a wedding storyline with Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford.

Before the wedding though, Miro was tasked with hosting the "best bachelor party ever" by Kip Sabian on this week's AEW Dynamite.

Whether Miro deliberately chose to involve himself in a wedding arc to take a shot at his love triangle storyline back in WWE is something that may or may not be true. But let's hope that he can move on to more legitimate feuds after this one ends.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford are heel characters by nature and Miro comes across as a likable personality, in general. It could be likely that Miro might end up ruining this wedding just like Lana desecrated her marriage with Rusev (in kayfabe) by bringing Bobby Lashley into the mix.

#4: The Young Bucks super-kicked a referee to strongly establish an edgy side to their personalities

Despite being fined for super-kicking Alex Marvez on AEW TV, The Young Bucks made it clear this week that they are permanently moving forward with an edgy direction to their characters.

A non-titles match between FTR and Jurassic Express kicked-off last night's edition of AEW Dynamite. Before FTR could make their entrance, Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks came out and super-kicked the referee of this match at the same time.

What made this moment even better was the aftermath backstage, where The Young Bucks tossed some cash at Tony Khan before they could be fined again, and FTR also mocked Matt and Nick's actions before heading towards the ring.

Meanwhile, Hangman Page wrestled Frankie Kazarian in a return to singles competition after All Out. Kenny Omega was on commentary and even though NJPW's Best Bout Machine appreciated that Page could get things done on his own, Omega didn't celebrate with Page after the latter defeated Kazarian in a hard-fought battle.

The Elite is in shambles and Cody hasn't appeared since being brutally assaulted by Brodie Lee. This might signal the beginning of a new era in AEW.

#3: Thunder Rosa wrestled Ivelisse in a good match and defeated her using the Tombstone Piledriver

The AEW Women's Division has felt a bit different ever since Thunder Rosa entered the scene. On this week's AEW Dynamite, Rosa fought Ivelisse in a thoroughly engaging bout.

After Rosa successfully pinned Ivelisse via an impressive Tombstone Piledriver, the latter's ally, Diamante, attacked the NWA Women's Champion immediately. Hikaru Shida jumped the barricade to even the odds against Ivelisse and Diamante.

Rosa and Shida showed some respect to each other and both of them will team up together on next week's AEW Dynamite.

Although Rosa is contracted with NWA at the moment, Tony Khan and NWA president Billy Corgan are on good terms professionally, and thanks to that, AEW fans have something interesting to look forward to when it comes to women's wrestling on AEW Dynamite every week.

Thunder Rosa and Hikaru Shida have already faced each other at AEW All Out, so it will be interesting to see if they are booked for a rematch or if AEW wants them to co-exist as babyface Champions on the same brand at the same time.

#2: Lance Archer temporarily joined forces with Taz's crew as Jon Moxley recruited Darby Allin and a newly-signed AEW star for next week's show

Jon Moxley and Lance Archer's clash is something that AEW fans have been looking forward to since All Out.

At the moment, both of these men had been tasked with recruiting two partners each for a six-man tag team match next week. This was an interesting scenario since Archer and Moxley are often regarded as lone wolfs on the same show.

Jake Roberts and Lance Archer convinced Taz to let Brian Cage and Ricky Starks offer their help on the upcoming edition of AEW Dynamite. Archer has butted heads with Taz's crew recently, so this was an intriguing development.

Meanwhile, Jon Moxley came out from the stands to announce his team, but the AEW World Champion was immediately ambushed by Starks and Cage, who were disguised as audience members.

Surprisingly, AEWs latest signee, Will Hobbs, arrived to rescue Moxley. Hobbs had an impressive showing at the Casino Battle Royale and the man has a lot of potential on AEW Dynamite.

Hobbs was announced as one of Moxley's partners next week, while the AEW World Champion called out Darby Allin to exact revenge on Ricky Starks by joining Moxley's team as well.

#1: Best Friends defeated Santana and Ortiz in a Parking Lot Fight main event

This hardcore fight was easily the most entertaining part of last night's AEW Dynamite.

Although Best Friends vs Santana and Ortiz wasn't the most discussed feud in recent weeks, both teams were given a chance to steal the show this week. And that is exactly what they did.

As linked above, Mick Foley went on to praise the effort put on by all competitors involved here, and there were some spots in this fight that would have made the hardcore legend proud.

Blood was involved, cars were destroyed, and bodies were wrecked. But at the end of the night, Orange Cassidy's arrival helped Best Friends to overcome the threat of Santana and Ortiz on AEW Dynamite.

The post-match events were entertaining as well. After securing a victory against The Inner Circle's tag team specialists, Best Friends rode off into the night in Trent's mom's van. That wasn't all that happened though, as Trent's mom added the icing on the cake by flipping the bird on camera.

It was a bad night for Santana and Ortiz. However, it will be interesting to see where they go from here because Chris Jericho is currently chasing the AEW Tag Team Titles along with Jake Hager, so that leaves Inner Circle's tag team specialists with fewer options on the roster.
