From the WWE Rumor Mill: Original plans for Hornswoggle's return revealed

Hornswoggle and Triple H

What's the story?

PW Insider has stated that the original plans for Hornswoggle's return at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble included him facing Wee-BL on the kickoff show but later changed their decision and had him participate in the 50-man Royal Rumble instead.

In case you didn't know...

Hornswoggle was a part of the WWE for around 10 years, from 2006 to 2016, before he was released by the company.

During his tenure with the company, 'woggle was a part of many interesting storylines including being Fit Finlay's son, a member of DX and joining the 3MB faction.

Although he was also a part of many matches over the years and even managed to win the Cruiserweight Championship at one point, he was mostly used for comic relief and backstage segments.

He had briefly joined Impact Wrestling after his release from WWE.

The heart of the matter

Hornswoggle made his unexpected return at the Greatest Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match, much to the joy of all the fans present in the arena.

However, a report from PWI states that the initial plan for Hornswoggle's return was quite different. WWE had initially planned for him to return on the kick-off show and face Wee-BL instead of being part of the main event match.

What's next?

It is uncertain as of now whether Hornswoggle will be making future appearances for WWE or if it was just a one-time occurrence.

Author's take

One of the best things about events like the Royal Rumble is the multitude surprise entrants and I was incredibly amused when the 31-year-old made a comeback.

Hornswoggle was always a great comedy character and I feel that WWE should get him onboard full time as he has the ability to entertain the audience with his hilarious antics.
