From the WWE Rumor Mill: Two new matches set to be added to Hell in a Cell

Hell in a Cell
Hell in a Cell takes place on 8 October in Detroit, Michigan

What's the story?

According to Cageside Seats, there are rumors rife that two new matches are likely to be added to the Hell in a Cell PPV card. The two matches are - Randy Orton vs Rusev and Sami Zayn vs Aiden English that may soon be confirmed for the PPV.

In case you didn't know...

Hell in a Cell is a Smackdown Live PPV event that will likely feature the main event with Shane McMahon taking on Kevin Owens in the dreaded cage. The match has an added element of animosity as Owens laid out McMahon's father, chairman Vince McMahon, on SmackDown.

Also, Jinder Mahal takes on Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship.

The heart of the matter

Randy Orton was involved in a long feud with current champions Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship which he lost at WWE Payback. The feud continued on for two further PPV events - Money in the Bank and Battleground but Orton proved unsuccessful in regaining the title on both occasions. Orton then proceeded to feud with Rusev whom he faced at the WWE Summerslam PPV. Orton defeated Rusev in just 10 seconds catching him with an RKO. At the next Smackdown Live, Rusev got revenge as he defeated Orton with a huge side kick and picked up the win in 10 seconds after a distraction from Aiden English.

Sami Zayn was involved in the US Championship picture for a while but then moved on to a feud with Aiden English. Zayn was defeated by Aiden English on Smackdown Live after being attacked by longtime rival Kevin Owens, who had assumed his position as referee. Zayn got a rematch the next week but again ended up losing to English.

What's next?

WWE has so far only confirmed four matches for the Hell in a Cell PPV event in Detroit, Michigan. In addition to the Kevin Owens vs Shane McMahon and Jinder Mahal vs Shinsuke Nakamura matches, two matches are confirmed. The New Day defend their tag team title against the Usos and Charlotte takes on Women's Champion Natalya for the title.

The two matches are likely to be confirmed soon by WWE.

Author's Take

Randy Orton needed a good program after his feud with Jinder Mahal and Rusev also needs a credible feud to bring him back into the limelight, and Orton provides much-needed credibility. It would be interesting to see whether WWE decides to use a stipulation for this match.

Sami Zayn is an extremely talented performer who perhaps has been a victim of poor booking by the WWE. Even Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan acknowledged that and Sami seems to be in agreement with that statement. He needs to be booked well and get a decent storyline to regain his lost momentum.
