Is John Cena back to promote SmackDown?

John Cena

In 2008, John Cena shocked everybody by returning way before time from his tricep injury. That might have been the very last time that he did something shocking.

Cena returned back from another career threatening injury this past week. He was supposed to be out for four to six months but returned after two.

He has been in a not-so-spectacular match with Alberto Del Rio which was supposed to just hand over the title to Cena to show how he has defied all odds and he is what everyone thinks he is- SuperCena. Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler went on and on singing his praises. The WWE was so hellbent on making Cena look like Superman that they made a good heel commentator like JBL to proclaim that he was wrong.

If that was not enough, he defeated Damien Sandow in a spectacular opening match on Raw. Sandow’s championship opportunity with the Money In The Bank is now void. The champ is back, so everybody should get back to being buried by their towering champion.

Cena informed the fans on Raw that he is back for good and that he’ll be on every house show that has been announced and he’ll also be back on Smackdown. The World heavyweight Champion belongs to Smackdown, not that brand differentiation has been any good or essential in recent times. This means that Cena will be back on Raw and Smackdow. He’ll be working twice the amount he was working before he got injured. This would mean two things.

One, Cena is going to wrestle twice a week to show hoe superhuman he is and let the audience believe in his abilities. Two, as Orton and Bryan continue their main event story, someone needs to be on Smackdown to take the place which those two acquired months before Summerslam transpired.

This makes Cena the perfect tool for Smackdown’s promotion. Given that Raw and Smackdown numbers have been on a record low, his presence might help the sinking ships.

Right now, John Cena is the World heavyweight Champion and Randy Orton is the WWE Champion. Two superstars who have been pushed the most by the company in the past decade or so. The company might be doing this to get back up in the numbers.

Hopefully, the company can build another superstar or push another superstar who can take their place soon.
