WWE Money in the Bank 2020 Preview: Possibly surprising heel turn, 10-year veteran to lose important title shot? (May 10th, 2020)

The main event?
The main event?

Welcome to Money in the Bank 2020 Preview! It's our first PPV post-WrestleMania and we're set to witness one of the most unique PPVs in WWE history. Money in the Bank has traditionally been one of WWE's most important PPVs, with many believing that it should be added to the "Top 4" PPVs of the year.

There's no denying the importance of the show and tonight, we'll witness two stars ascend the corporate ladder and virtually guarantee themselves a future Championship victory. Things are going to get interesting as the Superstars try to reach the top of WWE HQ, but there's a lot more to look forward to as well.

Jeff Hardy vs Cesaro was added to the Kickoff show. That aside, let's get right into it:

#7. Braun Strowman (c) vs Bray Wyatt - Universal Championship

The Fiend has yet to make an appearance
The Fiend has yet to make an appearance

Braun Strowman defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 to win the Universal Championship. His first challenger post-WrestleMania turned out to be Bray Wyatt, who was quick to remind him of their history together. It's been well over three years since the end of the Wyatt Family with Strowman and the only time the two crossed paths was at Survivor Series while on different brands.

Even then, we haven't been able to see the story play out between the two - until now. What's interesting to note is that Braun Strowman will be facing Bray Wyatt and not 'The Fiend'.

That alone seems to give him a big chance, but if you've been following the subtleties of the rivalry, then you'll have noticed that Wyatt has been trying to recruit the Universal Champion again.

There's a high possibility of Strowman losing the title to Wyatt and surrendering himself again, turning heel. However, there's also the possibility of Strowman winning. Either way, we'll know if The Monster Among Men has truly broken from the spell of Wyatt.

#6. Bayley (c) vs Tamina - SmackDown Women's Championship

Bayley has been a dominant Champion
Bayley has been a dominant Champion

There has been no woman in SmackDown history who has been more dominant than Bayley has these past seven months. She walked out of WrestleMania with the SmackDown Women's Championship despite the odds, but her next challenger is a dangerous one.

Tamina is a 10-year veteran who was the 'biggest threat' at WrestleMania. However, Bayley has no one to run to as she takes on a Superstar who will look to win her first title in WWE. However, given Tamina's dominant position in the feud, it appears as though the veteran may not be able to get it done against Bayley.

#5. The New Day (c) vs The Forgotten Sons vs The Miz & John Morrison vs The Lucha House Party - SmackDown Tag Team Championship

A big challenge
A big challenge

This could be the sleeper match of the night. There hasn't been much hype around it, but The Forgotten Sons have had an instant impact in their debut, beating the Champions in a non-title match.

Four teams are in the mix in what should be an exciting contest. The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Big E are no strangers to adversity, which is why they can't be counted out.

#4. MVP vs R-Truth

A clash of veterans

This was a last-minute and random addition to the card, but an interesting one regardless. MVP returned to WWE earlier this year to a completely unfamiliar roster. There were few Superstars from his era who are still around and R-Truth just so happens to be one of them.

While we're not sure who's going to win the match, MVP will have the support of his two newest clients - Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink. One would think that they'll have a role to play in helping MVP and that's exactly what we expect.

#3. Women's Money in the Bank ladder match

The battlefield is set
The battlefield is set

One of the two Money in the Bank Ladder Matches will be the fourth annual Women's MITB ladder match. Just like the men, the six women will be climbing the corporate ladder. Despite the inaugural winner Carmella representing SmackDown, there's no denying that the RAW representatives Shayna Baszler, Asuka, and Nia Jax make up a much stronger playing field.

We expect a RAW Superstar to become Ms. Money in the Bank this year, with Shayna Baszler being a possible favorite.

#2. Men's Money in the Bank ladder match

A stacked match-up
A stacked match-up

One of the few things that make the Money in the Bank ladder matches unique this year is not only the fact that Superstars have to climb WWE HQ and get up to the rooftop but also the fact that the Men and Women's MITB match will be happening at the very same time!

This is going to result in a cinematic-style match-up, one that we hope is a major success. The field for the Men's Money in the Bank ladder match will see AJ Styles, Rey Mysterio, and Aleister Black compete from RAW, while King Corbin, Otis, and Daniel Bryan represent SmackDown.

We have two former winners in Bryan and Corbin, the latter of who was one of the few to unsuccessfully cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase. Apollo Crews was a Superstar who missed out this year after qualifying for the match up. An unfortunate knee injury meant that he won't get the opportunity, but AJ Styles is a far more suitable replacement.

#1. Drew McIntyre (c) vs Seth Rollins - WWE Championship

This one is going to be good
This one is going to be good

While this may not be the actual main event the show, it could be the last one in the Performance Center. Seth Rollins lost to Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 36, while Drew McIntyre beat Brock Lesnar in a matter of minutes to win the WWE Championship.

Finally on top of the throne, Drew McIntyre has begun a journey that's much harder than reaching the top - staying on top. His first challenge is the hardest he could have asked for, as he takes on a 4-time World Champion in Seth Rollins.

Last year, Seth Rollins was in the same position that Drew McIntyre is in right now, and he had to get through AJ Styles at the same PPV. McIntyre has seemingly gotten the better of Murphy, but Rollins is a big threat to any competitor on any given day.

However, post-WrestleMania PPVs normally favor the defending Champion and we don't expect McIntyre to lose the title to Rollins this early on.
