Length of Cody Rhodes' WWE title reign predicted by veteran; could lose the championship to major star

Former WWE Superstar Aiden English believes Cody Rhodes would probably hold the Undisputed WWE Championship until WrestleMania 41.

The American Nightmare captured the title earlier this month after ending Roman Reigns' almost four-year reign at WrestleMania XL. The following night on RAW, The Rock confronted Rhodes to inform him that he would be coming after him upon his return to WWE, before leaving for a hiatus.

Although English thinks Rhodes might not remain champion for four years, he claimed on the Rebooked podcast that The American Nightmare's reign would last several months or maybe even till next year's 'Mania.

Meanwhile, he predicted that next year's Show of Shows might just be Cody Rhodes squaring off against The Final Boss, where he drops his Undisputed WWE Championship to the latter.

"I would imagine Cody is not in line for any even remotely 'transitional reign.' Even if it doesn't last another four years. I mean, we're getting six-eight-nine months out of this at least. I would imagine probably even next year's 'Mania. [I can see Cody walking into 'Mania as champion.] Yeah, I think we're gonna go to Cody-Rock potentially at 41. I feel like they might hold off on that. That or we get ourselves around to Rock-Roman finally proper and going somewhere else with Cody," he said. [19:55 - 20:27]

Cody Rhodes will defend his WWE Championship for the first time at Backlash France

Last night on SmackDown, Cody Rhodes had his first televised match since winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania XL. The American Nightmare defeated Carmelo Hayes in the latter's first official match as a member of the blue brand's roster.

On the same episode of SmackDown, Rhodes signed the contract for his first title defense against AJ Styles. The Phenomenal One defeated LA Knight in the final of the eliminator tournament. The two top stars will now go head-to-head for the first time at Backlash, France next month.

While The American Nightmare's match against Styles does not seem to have much of a story so far, former Intercontinental Champion Ryback suggested that Dustin Rhodes could return to the Stamford-based company if his AEW contract expired to spice up the feud. It would certainly be an interesting twist if it happens.
