WWE has been a home to many incredible heels.
WWE has been a home to many incredible heels

WWE veteran Vince Russo has urged heels to maintain their persona on social media rather than trying to please fans by sharing happy pictures of themselves.

Back in the day, before the advent of social media, performers carried their personas even outside the ring. Names like The Undertaker and Kane seldom showed their real side to fans until much later in their careers when they retired. Even today, a few performers have kept this tradition alive, for instance, MJF, who uses social media solely to advance his on-screen character.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing with Russo, Vince Russo explained while everyone has a life outside of the ring, wrestlers need to be careful when they are working on a big stage. He added that even a lot of athletes who are great at being heels are prone to using social media to showcase their personal life.

"Listen, I understand it's human nature, but now you're at a level where you're a pro. That's them wanting to be liked. That's them wanting to be over. I swear to god, it cracks me up sometimes when you have heels that are doing a really good job, and they are hated as heels, but they want people in real-life to know, 'That's not really me. Look, I'm married to a rockstar, or I'm here with my kitten,'" said Vince Russo.

The former WWE writer believes if one is given an opportunity to perform on TV in front of millions of fans, it's imperative they take it seriously.

"Bro, I get it, I understand, but you're supposed to be a pro, man, and when you're pro, bro, you've got to put ego aside. You've got to put feelings aside. It's gotta be business," said Vince Russo. (14:24 - 15:16)

WWE legend The Undertaker on why it's necessary to protect kayfabe

Back in 2020, in an interview, The Undertaker revealed why he went out of his way to maintain kayfabe throughout his 30-year wrestling career.

The WWE Hall of Famer disclosed that since he had always dreamt of becoming a wrestler and didn't have any aspirations to break into Hollywood, he was committed to giving it his all. Furthermore, The Phenom made it clear that he didn't have any issue with those who weren't keen on maintaining kayfabe at all times.

"They appreciated the effort from me it took for me to protect and... so I think they appreciated that. And, my mindset was 'I'm living my dream here so I didn't have aspirations of going to Hollywood and crossing over like that, which I got nothing against guys who do," said The Undertaker.

The Deadman finally began freely interacting with media and fans following his retirement from WWE, as he's no longer a character on TV.
