Opinion: Rob Van Dam deserves one last WWE match

Former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam is one of those performers who, although is now 47, is always among the first names that come to fans' minds when they want one more run for a legendary superstar.

Rob Van Dam last wrestled for WWE in 2014. He initially returned in 2013 and had a run of 'two halfs', the first half being good and the second being pretty lacklustre. When Rob first returned, he did so in the main event of the Money in the Bank event and would then spend two months feuding with then World Heavyweight Champion Alberto del Rio.

RVD would then take some time away from TV as WWE was being careful with how many dates he had signed up to work and then returned on the post-WreslteMania 30 Raw. This second half of his return turned out to be quite miserable as he was mainly used to put other talent over and barely took home any victories.

Always a worthy World Title contender

Rob Van Dam is apparently no longer able to perform for WWE due to a concussion that he suffered in 2016, as he revealed during his ongoing divorce with estranged wife Sonya. Regarding the financial settlement and support between the two, Van Dam argued that he should pay less than Sonya is asking, because he no longer lives the glamorous life of a wrestling superstar. RVD said that on November 12, 2016 he suffered a concussion that “caused visual impairment” and has “disqualified me from working for the WWE.”

RVD reportedly suffered the concussion during a PCW match. In addition to the concussion, it was also noted that RVD's merchandising contract with WWE ended in July 2017 and wasn't renewed. A fan recently asked Rob on social if he could return to WWE for a match with WWE Champion AJ Styles to which Rob replied that it was ''up to Hunter''.

Rob has said he currently has about 20 or so independent appearances planned for this year, a lot less than originally planned, due to the concussion. He has also said that most of his planned appearances will take place outside of the United States. As stated above, RVD feels that a WWE return may happen if Triple H thinks so. As of right now though, it looks like we may never get it.

I'm hoping RVD's concussion is not as serious as he believes it to be. I don't think Rob would ever return to the WWE schedule, concussion or not, but some WWE cameo appearances from time to time would be pretty cool. RVD deserves to end his tremendous career with WWE on a better note.
