Money in the Bank is one of WWE’s most exciting pay-per-views in the year. When so many wrestlers enter the ring to compete over one briefcase hung above the ring, there is always sure to be chaos.

Originally started as a match of its own taking place at WrestleMania, the brutal and exciting nature of the match made it extremely popular with the WWE Universe. They enjoyed the breathless nature of the action and the continuous involvement of the superstars who were competing.

Usually taking place between eight wrestlers, the match grew so popular, Money in the Bank became a pay-per-view of its own. Since starting off, there have been certain wrestlers who have taken advantage of the setting of the match to make it their own stomping grounds. Some of them have put on performances that anyone would be hard-pressed to forget.

In this article, we will take a look at five competitors from WWE Money in the Bank matches who managed to make the match their own. It should be noted, that the superstars on this list will be on the basis of best performances, wins, and the number of times that a wrestler has participated in the match, and not on any one factor.

#5 Best Money in the Bank performers: Kane

Much like the Royal Rumble, to the surprise of WWE fans, Kane made the Money in the Bank match his stomping ground. The seven-foot-tall wrestler was consistently involved in Money in the Bank matches and even won the Money in the Bank briefcase on one occasion. Fans will be surprised to learn that Kane has the most number of Money in the Bank match appearances, tied with Kofi Kingston, at seven times.

The Devil’s Favorite Demon made himself a terror in the matches, always posing a threat due to his sheer presence. While he won only one of the Money in the Bank ladder matches, he always looked like he was a step away from winning more of the bouts.

His record in the Money in the Bank Ladder Matches, put together with his performances each time he was a part of them, makes him an inevitable addition to this list.

#4 Best Money in the Bank performers: Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin was a part of the five of the first six Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. In fact, he competed in each edition of the Money in the Bank ladder match to take place at WrestleMania, other than one.

Despite never really winning the briefcase, Shelton Benjamin is somehow more synonymous with the Money in the Bank Ladder Match than some of those who went on to win the briefcase.

Over the course of his wrestling career, Shelton Benjamin has taken some of the nastiest bumps in the history of the match. He has given his body completely to the matches and has been one of the most entertaining superstars to participate.

For most fans, some of the most memorable moments in the history of the match have involved Benjamin, whether it be a double sunset flip powerbomb off the ladder, falling off the top of the ladder on to one outside the ring, or using the ladder as a launchpad to catapult himself out on to the other opponents.

Benjamin is older now and no longer in his most athletic shape, but he remains one of the best wrestlers to have taken part in Money in the Bank Ladder Matches.

#3 Best Money in the Bank performers: Rob Van Dam

Rob Van Dam was not one of the most frequent Money in the Bank Ladder Match participants, but the few that he did take part in were better off for his involvement. Always entertaining when entering a ring, RVD made it his business to take things up a notch in ladder matches.

He also won the match once in his career, making sure that it would be one of the most memorable cash-ins in history.

Rob Van Dam won the second-ever Money in the Bank Ladder Match in 2006 and did so by defeating Bobby Lashley, Finlay, Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, and oddly enough, Ric Flair. While Flair’s performance in the match was certainly historic at his age, Van Dam stole the show.

The iconic shot of Van Dam grabbing the briefcase before falling off the top of the ladder will be a moment that fans will never forget. Other than the amazing performances in each of the Money in the Bank Ladder Matches he was a part of, RVD’s cash-in was also memorable.

He announced it ahead of time and challenged John Cena to a WWE Championship Match at ECW One Night Stand, and won the WWE title in front of a raucous crowd.

#2 Best Money in the Bank performers: Edge

The Rated-R Superstar made history by winning the first-ever Money in the Bank Ladder Match in history. Everything was special about the first edition of the match that would become a staple in WWE programming.

Every wrestler in the first Money in the Bank Ladder Match was either a main event star or a potential main eventer. Edge faced Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Christian, Kane, and Shelton Benjamin in one of the greatest editions of the match in wrestling history.

As a pioneer of ladder matches as we know them today, Edge was obviously a favorite going into the contest, but no one would believe the performance he put in on the day. He won the title and held the title for 280 days before finally cashing in on the WWE Champion John Cena after an exhausting match. It would set the trend for future Money in the Bank briefcase holders.

Much like Rob Van Dam, Edge only participated in three editions of the match, but each time, his performance was memorable, making him one of the best of all time. He would also win the Money in the Bank briefcase from Mr. Kennedy later, when the latter lost favor with WWE officials, leading to a second briefcase win without winning it in the match itself.

#1 Best Money in the Bank performers: CM Punk

So far, CM Punk holds the record for the highest amount of Money in the Bank briefcase wins in the history of the business. While Carmella also won it twice, the second time was due to a replay of the first match thanks to the involvement of James Ellsworth, so it won’t be counted.

However, CM Punk won two separate Money in the Bank Ladder Matches in consecutive years. This was at a time when Punk was not seen as the revolutionary wrestler that he is recognized as being today. At the time, he was an up-and-coming young star who successfully cashed in the briefcase both times, leading to two World Heavyweight Championship wins.

He was also a part of four different Money in the Bank matches, getting close every time that he was a part of it. Punk may be the best-ever wrestler when it comes to Money in the Bank matches in WWE history.

His cash-ins were also memorable, defeating Edge after an attack by Batista to win the title the first time, and cashing-in on Jeff Hardy after an exhausting ladder match by Hardy.
