Rollins opens up about his injury status, WWE World title, next champion and more

The path to recovery begins for the former WWE World Champion

It’s been a forgettable week for Seth Rollins as he suffered an untimely injury at the live event in Dublin that would keep him on the sidelines for 6-9 months marking the end of his solid title reign.

The entire wrestling community was left shocked after the tragic incident and messages of support have been pouring in for the former World Heavyweight Champion.

WWE.com spoke wth the ‘The Architect’ about the injury and also stated that he would be consulting doctors in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday following which he would be meeting Dr. Dugas on Tuesday, who would be reconstructing his knee after a surgery.

He spoke about his mindset, WWE World title and more in the interview. Below are the excerpts from the same:

On how he is feeling emotionally and mentally after what has been a turbulent period

Surprisingly, Rollins finds himself in a good spot and said that his knee doesn’t hurt the way people imagine.

“Like, one thing people don’t understand, a common question is, “How much pain are you in?” The ligaments don’t have nerve endings, so, that’s a good thing and a bad thing, but I don’t feel any pain, it’s just a lot of instability in the knee capsule,” said Rollins.

By stating that his emotional well-being could have been better, Rollins said, “So, I’m doing a lot of compression to kind of reduce the swelling and stuff like that. Emotionally … could be better. Obviously it’s a tough spot to be in. I’m mostly just looking forward to getting the surgery done and getting better every day.”

On the future of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and who he would like to see win the title

Rollins was on point when he said that he has owned the title over the past seven months and has stamped his authority with a Championship reign that would be remembered for some time to come.

He said, “I’ve defended it against literally everyone that has come at me and done it successfully, so for me to have to vacate the title like that, I’m not afraid of whatever happens at Survivor Series.”

By not naming any superstar, in particular, Rollins was of the opinion that whoever does end up capturing the belt would only be an interim champion until his inevitable return.

“Whoever happens to come out with the championship, as far as I’m concerned, they’re an interim champion and kind of just holding on to my title until I get back. They can look at it however they want, but for me, I’m the best and I’ve never lost my title. So, when I get back, I plan on picking up where I left off,” said The Architect.

A message to the WWE Universe as he begins his long and steady process of rehabilitaion

For a heel who gets an insane amount of heat on a regular basis, Rollins was quite surprised by the amount of love and support that was showered upon him post his injury.

“Well, you know, for someone who is as universally despised as I am, I was pretty overwhelmed with the amount of love that I received from all of the fans in the WWE Universe. All of the well wishes and, just in general, all the concern that everyone had for me as a person and as a performer. So, I don’t do this very often, but I would like to extend a thank you to them,” said Rollins.

Rollins is indebted to the fans for their well wishes and states that he will come back stronger than ever.

“Their support means a lot to me and it’s going to go a long way in my recovery and help me mentally get back to where I was at. So yeah, it’s very interesting to see how quickly people’s minds can change when it comes to something like that — it says a lot about the human condition. I’ll be back stronger and better than I was before. That’s a guarantee. You ain’t see nothing yet,” said the former World Heavyweight Champion.

He even posted a tweet after the interview that asserted his aim of coming back with a vengeance. Below is the post:

WE hope ‘The Future’ of the WWE does come back stronger after a speedy recovery to reclaim what is rightfully his.
