WrestleMania XXX and the Undertaker – Daniel Bryan’s gravest challenge!

The Undertaker: Daniel Bryan's biggest challenge.

The Undertaker: Daniel Bryan’s biggest challenge.

If you’re anything like me, you won’t believe most of the things being presented on the dirt sheets. Every week, the reporters and the so called “experts” get their own version of inside scoop, rather their own twisted version, and present it as a spoiler or an inevitable occurrence in the future. Some of them make very little sense, while most of them are pure speculation. But sometimes, very rarely if ever, the inside scoop they present are actually true. January is usually one of the busiest months for professional wrestling websites, as it is the month of the Royal Rumble, and the beginning of the road to WrestleMania. A few days ago, there was a rumour going around regarding The Undertaker’s match at WrestleMania 30. Most of the names being thrown around included the likes of Brock Lesnar, John Cena and even Sheamus! But the recent name which was discussed made the most sense out of the lot; the name of one of the hottest superstars today, and someone whose future is filled with uncertainty.

In the last few months, Daniel Bryan has been thrown around, competing against various superstars. After Team Hell No split up, Daniel Bryan was thrown into the main event scene, where he first feuded with John Cena, then Randy Orton and The Authority, then The Shield for a very brief period and is now a part of the Wyatt Family. This not only tells us that the creative team doesn’t have concrete plans for Daniel Bryan for the long term, but also that Daniel Bryan is one of the most respected, and most sought after superstars to work with. This is because he is arguably the best technical wrestler in the world, and one of the safest workers in the business. Daniel Bryan, being a light heavyweight, doesn’t work too stiff, or use power moves which can take some toll on his opponents. This leads to the case that if you’re an aging superstar, Daniel Bryan would be the ideal opponent, as he can not only work an amazing match, but can also protect his opponent by not working stiff; an aging superstar such as The Undertaker.

Recent reports suggest that The Undertaker had personally requested to work with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30, and I won’t be surprised if it is actually true. The Undertaker is expected to call it quits sooner rather than later, and isn’t exactly at his peak. His body has taken quite a lot of abuse in the past 30 years, and anyone who has seen The Undertaker in the past few years would know that Father Time has caught up with The Deadman. Last year, The Undertaker worked with someone whose style is pretty similar to Daniel Bryan’s – CM Punk. Punk and ‘Taker put on one of the best matches of the year and stole the show at WrestleMania, and so The Undertaker would be looking to repeat the same effort with someone who could work a great match. It would also be great injustice to the legacy of The Deadman if his last match at WrestleMania wasn’t a show stealer, something he takes pride in. The fact that John Cena, Brock Lesnar and a returning Batista are set to be involved in championship matches in some capacity at WrestleMania 30 would suggest that Daniel Bryan may indeed be “The chosen one”.

Daniel Bryan’s meteoric rise to superstardom has faded away at the same rate. With Triple H being of the belief that a “smaller” Daniel Bryan cannot be the face of the company, there is a long way to go before Daniel Bryan gets his hands once again on the richest prize in the industry, whether the fans like it or not. Daniel Bryan is arguably still the hottest superstar in the wrestling business, and as such, can be involved in the marquee match at WrestleMania 30 against The Undertaker. One can only hope that Bryan faces ‘Taker at the ‘Grand daddy of Entertainment’, as it would be a fitting tribute to one of the greatest superstars of all time, The Undertaker, if he does decide to hang up his boots after the mega event. This would also propel Daniel Bryan once again into the main event scene, resulting in a win – win situation for both the superstars.
